Keosauqua until the Civil War. Charles served in the infantry during the war. In 1867, Charles married Lucinda Piper Spohr at Galena, Illinois. Lucinda was the widow of Frederick Spohr.
Charles worked as a tinner at Nevada, Iowa, for some time. He bought land in our community in 1868.
Charles and Lucinda were the parents of three sons. They were Frank, Fred, and Henry. Lucinda died on August 8, 1380. She is buried in the Illinois Grove Cemetery.
Charles moved to Marietta, Minnesota, in 1904. He died on November 7, 1914. Charles is buried in the Augusta Cemetery at Marietta.
Herr :
It is a pleasure to report that the two original members of the Herr family are living and active in 1956. The Herr family has been one of the leading families in our community since 1902.
Louis P. Herr married Minnie Mayne on February 3, 1898, at the country home of the bride's parents near El Paso, Illinois. Louis and Minnie moved to our community in 1902.
Louis and Minnie were the parents of six children. They were Mayne, Zelma, George, Huberta, Robert, and Reida.
The Herr family has always been active in community and church work. Louis and Minnie are living in Zearing hi 1956.
HIGGASON :
The Higgason family was a prominent Zearing family in the early 1900's. Wallace B. Higgason was a veterinarian in our community.
Wallace Bruce Higgason and Josephine Dinsmore were married at Fremont, Iowa, on June 25, 1880.
Wallace and Josephine were the parents of five children. They were Ina, Orpha, William, Walter, and Hazel.
Ina Higgason Allen is living at Marion, Iowa, in 1955. Orpha Higgason Ruxton is a resident of our community. William is deceased. Walter lives at Amarillo, Texas. Hazel Higgason Seubert is a resident of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
HINECKER :
Lucian Hinecker of Marshalltown, Iowa, sent us the information for the pioneer Hinecker family. Lucian is a grandson of George and Catherine Hinecker.
George Hinecker was born on June 7, 1846, in Henry county, Indiana. Catherine Williams was born at Huntsville, Indiana. George and Catherine were married at Huntsville in 1870. They moved to our community a few years after the marriage.
