HAGGIN :
The Haggin family lived in the Indian territory of South Dakota. After some exciting experiences there, they moved to Iowa.
Osborn Francis Haggin married Martha Martin in 1864. Martha was born in Kentucky on December 6, 1846.
O. F. and Martha were the parents of nine children. Two infants died in South Dakota. One infant died at Union, Iowa. The others were Mary Elizabeth, Eliza Jane, Leason, Lottie, Frank, and Rose. Lottie Haggin Snyder is living in Zearing in 1956. Mary Elizabeth Haggin Gogerty and Eliza Jane Haggin Gogerty lived in our community for many years.
O. F. died in January, 1910. Martha died on October 12, 1923.
HAMILTON :
Montgomery Hamilton was a charter member of the Zearing G.A.R. However, no one remembers the Hamilton family.
Montgomery Hamilton was born at Bedford, Pennsylvania, on January 27, 1833. Hanna R. Sarvor was also born in Pennsylvania. Montgomery and Hanna were married on February 28, 1856, at Pecatonica, Illinois. They lived in our community in the early 1880's.
Montgomery and Hanna were the parents of two sons. They were Albert and Frank.
Montgomery died on October 23, 1897. Hanna died on January 27, 1937.
Hankey :
Charles E. Hankey lived on a farm on the county line north of Zearing, Iowa, for forty-two years. He moved to the farm in 1892.
Charles E. Hankey was born in Frederick, Maryland, on January 4, 1858. He came to Iowa from Illinois when he was nineteen years of age.
Charles married Anna Martin of Colo, Iowa, in 1887. Charles and Anna. did not have any children.
Charles died on March 9, 1934. Anna died several years later but we do not have the date. They are buried at Colo, Iowa.
HAVELICK :
Fred C. Havelick was with the Canadian army in World War I. He sailed for France in 1914. In a letter dated January 4, 1918, Fred stated that he had been awarded a medal for bravery on the battle field. It was awarded to Fred by the King.
Wenzel Charles Havelick was born at New Prague, Minnesota, on September 1, 1863. Cora Adel Blodgett was born at Red Wing, Minnesota, on August 27, 1869.
