None of the children live in this community in 1956. Russell L. Golly has been the Story county treasurer since 1944. He was reelected on November 2, 1954. Russell lives at Nevada, Iowa. Catherine Golly Jessen lives at Story City, Iowa.

William H. died on February 22, 1942. Jane died on February 5, 1915.

John M., the son of John S. and Eliza, was born in New York in 1855. On February 22, 1876, John M. married Lucy Spohr. Lucy was the daughter of Frederick and Lucinda Piper Spohr, natives of Germany.

Note : After the death of Frederick Spohr, Lucinda Piper Spohr married Charles Helwig, local pioneer.

John M. and Lucy were the parents of eight children. They were Elizabeth, Gertrude, Guy, John R., Fred E., Edna, Leona, and Ernest. Two of the children are living in our community in 1956. They are Gertrude Golly Davis Young and John R. Golly.

John M. died on December 8, 1903. Lucy died on July 26, 1921.

Robert Golly (Uncle Bob), was a brother of John S. He was a batchelor. Uncle Bob ran a livery stable in Zearing for several years.

Hugh Golly was a cousin of Robert and John S. Hugh was born on May 12, 1825. Lurancy Shrill Grandy was born on October 28, 1832, in Middlebury, Addison county, Vermont. Hugh and Lurancy were married in Cook county, Illinois, on December 15, 1850. Hugh was a farmer in our community.

Hugh and Lurancy were the parents of eleven children. They were Newal, Sarah, Frank, Alice, Elizabeth, William, Lilly, Arthur, Mary, Jessa, and Lurancy.

Hugh died on January 19, 1895. Lurancy died on July 24, 1906.

GRANDY :

The Grandy family can be listed with the charter members of Zearing, Iowa. In fact, several members of the family arrived in our community before Zearing was founded. George Henry Grandy Sr. came to the John S. Golly home in Lincoln township in 1876. H. Alexander Grandy came to our community with his father, John Ira, and. his half sister, Mary Elizabeth, in 1880. The trip in 1880 was made by ox team and covered wagon. The Grandy home was the third house built in Zearing, Iowa.

John Ira Grandy was born on June 20, 1826, at Middlebury, Addison county, Vermont. John Ira married Rachel Blank at St. Charles, Illinois.

John Ira and Rachel were the parents of three children. They were Mary Elizabeth, John, and Elvina.
