Farber:
The Farber family was a prominent pioneer family in the Illinois Grove community. Members of the family were prominent in our community at a later date. Information for the following sketch was received from Elsie Farber Voogd of Nevada, Iowa.
Henry Farber was born in Germany in 1826. He married Harriet Harris. She was born in Ohio in 1824.
Henry and Harriet were the parents of Thomas, Everet, Liva O., and Frank.
Henry died in 1913. Harriet died in 1911.
Liva O. was born in Ohio in 1850. He was the son of Henry and Harriet. Liva O. was a Zearing business man. Liva O. married Maria Starr in 1872 at Greeley, Iowa. Maria was born in Iowa in 1856.
Floyd, the son of Liva O. and Maria, was also prominent in our community. Floyd, 1876-1919, married Grace Burkhart, 1878-1949. Grace was the daughter of John C. and Anna Albaugh Burkhart of our community.
Liva O. died in 1935. He was buried in California. Maria died in 1913. She was buried at Greeley, Iowa.
FINES :
For many years Jim Fines ran threshing machines and corn shellers in our community. He was a familiar figure on the farms of this area.
James H. Fines was born on December 24, 1874, in Wilmington, Illinois. Mary Luella Sparrow was a daughter of Ephraim and Jennie Sowers Sparrow of our community. James married Mary Luella in Zearing on December 21, 1898. They established their home in this community.
James and Mary Luella were the parents of thirteen children. Twelve of the children survived their father. They were Iola, Vera, Edna, Goldie, Mable, Harold, Howard, Hazel, Imo, Lucille, Barbara Jean, and Wanda.
James was killed on November 18, 1932, while unloading oats at Clemons, Iowa. Mary Luella died on May 11, 1949.
FITCH :
You will find the name Fitch in many of the records of organizations and clubs in our community. There is no doubt that the family was well known in our community in the 1890's and early 1900's. The family moved to Minnesota.
Robert A. Fitch was born near Correctionville, Iowa. Sarah Ellen McNamee was born on April 20, 1843, at St. Charles, Missouri. Robert and Sarah were married on December 4, 1869, near Elkport, Iowa. They moved to our community in 1893.
