Dimmitt :
Harry T. Dimmitt was a charter member of the Zearing G.A.R. He was also a charter member of Pacific Lodge No. 469, A.F.& A.M.
Henry T. Dimmitt was born in Henry county, Indiana, on June 23, 1842. Edith Jay was born in Henry county, Iowa, on June 9, 1845. Henry and Edith were married on October 6, 1861. They moved to our community in 1879.
Henry and Edith were the parents of fifteen children. One son died in infancy. The others were Rebecca, Nellie, Vanetta Ann, William E., Martha Jane, George L., Jemima, Dempsey E., Frank L., Fred, Edith E., Ralph A., Grace E., and Marion V.
Henry died on April 10, 1915. He was buried at Goodland, Kansas. Edith died on August 26, 1922.
DOOL :
Mary Dool Gardiner and Clarence Omar Dool are prominent residents of our community in 1956. Mary and Omar have been life long residents of our community. We are grateful for their assistance in the assembling of facts for this history.
Robert A. Dool established a harness and shoe business in Zearing in 1881. A story taken from an 1883, Nevada, Iowa, newspaper gave the following account of Robert's wedding. It stated that the wedding took place at the residence of Cyrus Bishop, near Colo, Iowa, on October 3, 1883. Robert A. Dool of Zearing married Ida M. Bishop of New Albany township. They were married by Rev. A. W. Gilchrist. The item commented that the happy couple would renew childhood associations having been schoolmates in Canada.
Robert and Ida were the parents of five children. They were Mervyn, Mary, Tom, Nettie, and Clarence Omar.
Robert died on August 1, 1909. Ida died on December 21, 1938.
DRAKE :
The Drake family lived on a farm in our community prior to 1900. Julia Drumm Drake was a charter member of the Zearing Cemetery Association.
Dennis D. Drake was born in New York. Julia Drumm was born in New York on January 13, 1832. Dennis and Julia were married on July 3, 1852. They moved to Whiteside county, Illinois, from New York. In the 1870's, they moved to Iowa.
Dennis and Julia were the parents of a daughter, Melissa E. Drake Lincoln.
Dennis died on July 7, 1892. Julia died on May 25, 1899. Dennis and Julia are buried in the Zearing Cemetery.
