on February 15, 1857. Marion Brown was born at Saratoga Springs, New York, on August 11, 1857. Marion lived most of her early life in Wisconsin. Cyrus and Marion were married on February 15, 1879, at Elgin, Illinois. Immediately after the marriage they journeyed by covered wagon to our community.
Cyrus and Marion were the parents of three children. They were Ernest, Grace, and Ward. Ernest was the first baby born in the new town of Zearing, Iowa.
Cyrus died on March 26, 1949. Marion died on September 30, 1933.
Beatty :
The Beatty family was prominent in our community in the late 1800's. The family moved to Missouri in 1901. Residents of our community in 1955 will remember Gertrude Beatty Norton. She was called Gertie, by her friends and neighbors.
James E. Beatty was born in Illinois on July 6, 1842. Martha Jane Richardson was born in La Salle county, Illinois, on January 13, 1845. James and Martha Jane were married at St. Charles, Illinois, in 1866. They moved to our community in the 1880's.
James and Martha Jane were the parents of three children. They were John E., Gertrude Beatty Norton, and Elizabeth Beatty Bailey.
James died in 1910. Martha Jane died on August 29, 1925.
BELDEN :
Charles L. Belden was a man of action. He constructed buildings. He established Zearing's first electric light plant. He did not wait for others to carry out his ideas.
Charles L. Belden was born near Ithaca, New York, on August 31, 1851. He married Addie Norton at Mendota, Illinois, on October 3, 1876. Addie was born in Illinois. They moved to our community in 1882.
Charles and Addie were the parents of two sons. They were Etric and F. Lester.
Charles died on December 12, 1928. Addie died on August 17, 1947.
BILLINGTON :
Billington was a well known name in our community in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many present day residents remember Sepha Billington LeFevre.
Albert Wesley Billington was born on May 5, 1856, at Kirksville, Missouri. He came to Illinois Grove in 1876. In 1883, Albert married Mary Roberts of Illinois Grove.
