ABBEY :

Members of the Abbey family would be an asset to any community. Our community was fortunate to have them for many years.

Oliver P. Abbey was born at Cropsey, Illinois, in 1869. He married Margaret Terpening at Potomac, Illinois, on February 20, 1895. They moved to our community three years after the marriage.

Oliver was a farmer and business man during his life in this community. He served several terms as the mayor of Zearing.

Oliver and Margaret were the parents of two children. They were Jesse L. and Esther. Jesse L. farmed in this community for many years. Esther moved from our community after her marriage.

Oliver died on July 10, 1947. Margaret died on September 20, 1937.

Abbott :

The Abbott family came to our community in 1905 from Louisa county, Iowa. In 1917, they retired from their farm and moved to Zearing, Iowa.

Andrew Jackson Abbott was born in 1863. We do not have the place of birth. However, he told stories of his life near Conesville, Iowa. Anna E. Grimm, the daughter of James F. and Anna Grimm, was born on March 26, 1867, at Davenport, Iowa. Jack and Anna were married on March 15, 1900.

Jack's first wife died leaving a daughter, Emma. Emma Abbott Sparrow is living in. our community in 1955.

Jack died on December 23, 1950. Anna died on February 16, 1953.

ADAMS :

Descendants of the Adams family live in Lincoln township in 1955. The family has always been one of the best known families in our community.

John Adams was born in Walpole, New Hampshire, on May 25, 1834. John married Julia Crain of Westmoreland, New Hampshire, in November of 1859. They moved to our community in 1876.

John and Julia were the parents of six children. They were Edward (Ned), Bertha, Lottie, William W., John Jr., and Albert. Edward W. established his permanent home in this community.

The Adams family has been prominent in community and church affairs in Lincoln township and Illinois Grove since 1876.

John died on June 11, 1922. Julia died on April 11, 1911.
