ANDREW J. Shold

Andrew J. Shold came from Norway to the United States in 1890. After settling in the Roland vicinity, Mr. Shold worked as a carpenter and a farm laborer. In 1905 he was married to Marie Sorem, who had come from Etne, Norway in 1900.

The Sholds farmed southeast of Roland until 1938 when they moved to Roland. They were the parents of five children, Jeff, Erling, Arthur, Veda (Mrs. Andrew Bakke), and Martha (Coughenour).

KNUTE STENSLAND

Knute Stensland came to America from Sandied, Norway at the age of 12 years, and lived with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Dueland, near Huxley.

He married Jennie Hausken of Roland on December 29, 1910. Their children were Mrs. Hazel Beach, Mrs. Ernest (Herma) Beach, Mrs. Nolan (Fern) Ostrem, and Mrs. Edwin (Joyce) Smith. They farmed one mile east and three miles south of Roland and later farmed the Ole Erickson farm two miles east and four miles south of Roland. He farmed in Minnesota from 1914 to 1925, and returned to Roland and purchased the Hans Hausken farm in 1935, where he lived until retiring to Nevada in 1945. Mrs. Stensland died July 1949, and he married Sivrie Kinsey in 1959. He died January 23, 1967.

BEN SWENSON

Ben Swenson came with his mother and family to Roland about 1885, after his father's death. Ben and his brother, Gunnar, built and operated a tile factory for a number of years. He was in the lumber and grain business with Lars Britson, and later on Ben took over the grain business and Lars the lumber business. He served as mayor of Roland and as justice of the peace.
