Ole Samuel Haaland was born September 1, 1863 on the farm at the east edge of Roland, and purchased the farm after his father's death. He built a home in east Roland, the present Aaron Braathun residence, in 1903 where he lived his last seven years.
He was married February 27, 1896 to Betsy Earsland, and they were the parents of three children, Anna (Mrs. Ben Jacobson), Agnes (Mrs. Walter Fossel), and Samuel, and a stepson, Ole John Holland.
At the age of 16 years, Chris Hall came to the United States, and shortly after took up residence in the Roland community. In 1895, he married Julia Hereim, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andreas Hereim, and they spent most of their life on a farm south of Roland.
They were the parents of five children, Jesse, Amy (Mrs. Henry Borwick), Mrs. Magnus Olson, Mrs. Philip Ince, and Clarence Hall.Mr. and Mrs. Gudmon Hall were both born at Stavanger, Norway. They were married there November 12, 1899, and came to America in 1903.
They started farming in Hardin County, northeast of Roland, and later in Story County, until they moved to a farm south of Ellsworth where they lived until they retired and moved to Story City in 1942.
They were the parents of ten children, of whom seven survive.
