INGEBRIGT Eggland FAMILY
Ingebrigt Eggland left his homeland of Norway in 1866. The voyage to America took many weeks aboard a sailboat, during which time Mr. Eggland met his wife-to-be, Guro Orland. They were both enroute to the general area of Roland, and were later married. They purchased a farm 52 miles southeast of Roland from the federal government at a cost of $2. 50 per acre.
Mr. and Mrs. Eggland were the parents of eight children, Marie, Malinda, Osmund, Sam, Adolf, Julia and Martin. The children all spent most of their lives in the Roland community, with the exception of Julia who spent her early years in the teaching profession near Roland and many later years teaching in the East.
