WA -TAN-YE CLUB

April 10, 1956 was the charter night for the Roland Wa-tan-ye Club. Twenty-six business and professional women gave Roland its first women's service organization. The club meets twice a month and has combined service and social activities, including a variety of community services during the 14 years. The largest contribution financially was $1,500 given to the Roland Municipal Swimming Pool in 1968. A total of $1,300 has been awarded in student aid gifts to 13 senior girls.

Club members raise money for service projects through several moneymaking ideas. The chief source of income is operating the concession stand at softball games during the summer months.

The first officers were: President, Ione Osheim; Vice President, Dorothy Christian; Secretary, Rhoda Honderd; Treasurer, Nancy Kilstofte; Historian, Anne Larsen; Board members, Bonnie Reinertson, Mary Ann Tjelmeland, Edith Truman and Gloria Twedt.

Other charter members were Faye Ann Anderson, Doris Bakka, Thordis Christian, Charlotte Eggland, Carrie Fatland, Diana Jacobson, Doris Johnson, JoAnn Molde, Katherine Nelson, Rosie Quam, Shirley Rod, Mary Ann Sandvold, Jessie Sather, Laura Sather, Pat Sather, Berdine Severson and Myrtie Rosheim.

The Wa-tan-ye Club, with a present membership of 30 women, continues to strive for "Service Foremost", and to serve the community of Roland.

Two members of the Roland club have served in national offices of the organization. Dorothy Christian served as District 3 Director and National Treasurer, and Shirley Rod served as District 3 Director and National Editor. Their duties also included serving on the national Board of Directors of the Association of Wa-tan-ye Clubs.
