Deputy Marshal, Norman Sweet.
The Roland Municipal Swimming Pool was opened to the public on June 12, 1968, after many months of study and work. The project was sparked by a donation of $10,000 from the estate of J. O. Twedt with the restriction that the money be used for a swimming pool. A contract was let in the amount of $38,840 for construction of the pool itself, and together with the fencing, lights, bathhouse, landscaping, etc. , it is estimated to be worth in the neighborhood of $60,000, The remainder of the funds needed for the project were raised through donations and fund-raising campaigns of various sorts. Many former Roland residents contributed in large and small amounts of cash and other donations. The 82½x42 foot pool, with a 20x12 foot wading pool, is located on the former site of the Roland Farmers Creamery Company in west Roland. It is planned to add other forms of recreation on the grounds in the future.
