Knut P. Teig was born December 9, 1874 in Sovde, Norway. His parents were Paul O. and Britta Teig, and with them he came to America on May 31, 1880. They settled on a farm south of Roland.
He was married to Mary Grove on December 31, 1903. Mary was born October 13, 1876, a mile south of Roland, daughter of Mons and Anna Grove.
They bought a farm two miles east and a mile south of Roland, where they lived 43 years. He was a member of the Story County Farm Bureau, of which he was president and county 4-H committeeman for many years. He served as president of the Farmers Cooperative Creamery, secretary of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator, president of the Story County Cow Testing Association. He and his sons operated Maple Lawn Dairy from 1928 to 1948.
Mr. and Mrs. Teig were parents of seven children, Edward, a twin to Ellen, died in infancy. Six living children are Palmer, Mons, Hubert, Virginia (Mrs. Victor McKinney), Kermit, Ellen (Mrs. Orris Osheim).
PAUL Thompson
Paul Thompson, son of Thomas Tendeland, came to America from Norway in 1847. He settled in Kendall County, Illinois, and in 1851 he married Enger Risvold, also a native of Norway.
In 1854 he and three friends journeyed to Story County, Iowa, looking for land to purchase for $1.25 per acre--with a limit of 160 acres per purchaser. The following year, thirteen families of immigrants made the trip to Iowa to make a new life for their families. Near Nevada, the group split--six wagons going south to the Huxley neighborhood and seven to what later became Roland. Paul and Enger Thompson settled on a quarter section of land one mile south of Roland. Three children were born to them, Thomas Henry on June 9, 1859; a brother, Edward, deceased; and one who died in infancy.
The family helped establish the Lutheran Church where members of the community worshipped.
On March 7, 1880, Henry Thompson and Lizzie Erickson were married.
