Glen Egland'43: Daughter, Kathy'65R, was a Roland cheerleader all four years and Roland was in the State Tourney in both 1962 and 1963. In 1990 Kris Bailey (daughter of Kathy'65 and granddaughter of Glen'43) played in the sweet sixteen IGHSAU State Basketball Tournament for Northeast Hamilton under Coach Chuck Bailey, her Dad. (Chuck also took NE Hamilton to the State in 1995). Kris and her sister, Jolyn, were both in the Iowa State Fair Queen competition as Miss Hamilton County. Kris was the 1991 lst Runner-up and Jolyn participated in 1994.
Fred Matters'44: In 1974, daughter, Terri, at ISU, was selected on the All American Baseball Bat Girl Team, referred to as the Diamond Darling. In 2006, Granddaughter Cammy Matters (daughter of Jean and granddaughter of Fred `44) played as a freshman in the IGHSAU State Softball Tournament for Humbolt.
Bob Williams'51: 1999 Eric Williams (son of Rob `72 and grandson of Bob`51) was on the Colo/Nesco 100 meter Relay Championship at the Drake Relays and the IHSAA State Track Meet. Also in 1999, Jason Williams (son of Brad`73 and grandson of Bob`51) became Marshalltown's only 3-sport All State Team member in Football, Basketball and Baseball. In the 1999 state basketball tournament Jason was named to the All Tournament Team.
Florine Borton'52 Smalley: In 1996 granddaughter, Sandra Smalley, City High in Iowa City, participated in the IGHSAU State Swim meet. She also is a 2000 graduate from West Point and served in the US Army. Sandra's sister, DJ was a 1998 Iowa City, City High wrestler as one of the first girls in the state in the sport. She was offered a college scholarship for wrestling at University of MN, Morris, and later ISU, and MO Valley College. She became the World Champion Women Free-Style Wrestler in Poland in 2002 beating a Russian woman 3-2 in the finals. Her grandfather, Merrill Smalley, wrestled for Harold Nichols at ISU. Harold had served as a basketball referee at Milford Twp in the 1950's. In 2005-'06 grandson, Brandon `06, was on the first team in 3 sports for Cedar Rapids Prairie and played in the IHSAA State Baseball, Football and Soccer Tournaments. Brandon has an Academic Scholarship at Simpson participating in football and soccer. His brother, Ryan `07 was also on the Football Team.
Fritz Morris'54: Son, Shon`84 6'9" played for SE Polk and was named on the 1984 IHSAA First All State Basketball Team. He was selected to play on the 1984 Dr Pepper Iowa All Star Basketball Classic in Cedar Falls. In 1983 Shon helped represent Iowa at the AAU State Basketball competition in Louisiana. Shon received a full ride scholarship to Northwestern in the Big Ten. Shon lettered all four years and ALSO was a 3-year 'Academic All American' at Northwestern AND at the same time was selected by the City of Chicago as the 'Chicago Area Young Athlete of the Year' for 3-straight years while at Northwestern. After graduation in 1988 he played Pro Basketball in Greece before being hired at Northwestern and has served them in various positions: Assistant Basketball Coach, Director of Fund Raising (including the Mult-Athletic Complex); and is the Assistant Athletic Director. He is also on the broadcasting staff as a color analyst for ESPN and Big Ten. Shon was inducted into the SE Polk Hall of Fame in 2009. then at the add = = Michael's son, Thomas, was in the 2012 Jr Olymics Nationals in Fencing. Fritz's other son, Michael'85 at 6'5", played for SE Polk in the IHSAA State Basketball Tournament and was named to the All State Tournament Team. Shon was inducted into S E Polk Hall of Fame in 2004.
Dale Hughes'55: Daughter, Laura Lesa, 2000, graduated from Nevada after being a 4-year cheerleader for both football and wrestling and had state tourney experience as a cheerleader and with dance ensembles.
Jurine Borton'56 Moore: Daughter, Mashall Rana, 1979, played basketball and softball for Springville. The Softball team lost the last game before the state tournament competition for four tournaments in a row, while she played second base and graduated in three years. Mashall was the 1976 Linn County 4-H President and the State 4-H Leadership winner and attended the 58th Annual National 4-H Club Congress in 1979 while a freshman at ISU.
Larry Miller'56, sons, Mike, Ames High School track on State Track Team as sprinter. Larry Jr, was on the 1982 IHSAA Golf Team Championship Team.
Art Borton'57: The only two times Nevada made the football play-offs were in 1977 and 1986. Sons, Rick `78 and Todd `87 were on those teams. Art's daughter-in-law, Missy Robinson `86, (Mrs Todd Borton) was named to the 1985 & 1986 All State Softball Teams. She was inducted into Nevada's Hall of Fame in 2004. In 1983 Art's son, Brian `84, played for the Nevada Cubs and helped represent the Iowa AAU State Basketball competition on the same team as Shon Morris(see above) in 1984 in Monroe, Louisiana. In 2012 Grandson, Ty (son of Todd'87) was named to the 1st All State Tounament Team and the 1st All State Soccer Team when Nevada finished 2nd in the State.
Earl`58 and Doris Pauley`58 Otto: In 1981 their twins participated for Colo; Vickie `81 and Kimberly `83 participated in the IGHSAU 1980 State Basketball Tournament and Victor `81 was a mile runner in the IHSAA State Track Meet. In 2007 their grandson, Sam (son of Gail'79 Colo) won the Individual Top Score and helped his LeMars Bowling Team win the IHSAA Bowling competition at their class level. Clint, son of Vickie`81, played on both the 2011 and 2012 Ankeny football state championship teams.
Janet Rasmusson'58 Larson: Had three daughters and all three represented Laurens in the All State Music Festival: Jil `84-all 4 yrs; Jane '86 -three yrs; Julie '89 -all 4 yrs. Daughter Jane '86 also represented Laurens as a sprinter on the 1986 Relay Team at the IGHSAU State Track Meet and the Drake Relays.
Charles Larson `58, Sharyl Buchanan `59 Larson: In 2006 granddaughter, Courtney, (dau. of their son Dallas'78) as a freshman, played on the Ballard basketball squad and ended as an elite eight team in the IGHSAU State Tournament. She was also on the varsity track team. In 2006 grandson, Ross Larson (son of their son, Dallas'58) acquired his third consecutive AAU State Wrestling Championship. He also played baseball at the AAU State level. In 2011 Ross Larson, Ballard, won the 189 lb Class 2A Iowa Wrestling State Championship as a Jr. In 2012, he changed schools for his Sr year and again won a State Wrestling Championship at his weight, at Ankeny, Class IA, AND also was on the 2011 Ankeny State Tourney Football Team.
Karen Hughes'67N Witzleben: Son, Clark, in 2007, was on the Durham NC golf team that won the NC HS championship and he, also, was named to the NC All State Golf Team.
