Assesment

stable where Jim Hall is now located.

The year was 1905, when E. O. Dillin, later a prominent Nevada business man, built and operated a department store just east of the present postoffice. Until 1910, the store played a very important part in the serving of community needs. However, then as now, hazardous fires quickly destroyed business houses and in 1910 this store and the Severie Nordskog meat market across the street burned to the ground. Later, a house moved to just east of the Phillips 66 station and was used as a telephone office. Martin Mikkelson, who came directly from Norway, started a furniture store on what is now the empty lot on the corner east of the former F. E. Nail house. This is the Wallace Loney home now.

Along with concern for the minds of its young people McCallsburg was also proud to have a means of caring for the body as by now there were three Doctors names to add to the town's growing list of business and/or professional men, namely Dr. Hoyt, Dr. Mills, and Dr. Nordgren. Dr. Mills continued to serve the needs of the community for many years.

It was around 1915, when Vern Shoemaker, brother-in-law of A. C. Hanson, built Hotel Thelma, named for his daughter Thelma.

I have not mentioned church history because that will be found in a more detailed report elsewhere in this booklet, as will various other organizations and their activities.

My summation of this report is that our pioneering ancestors had great courage and foresight and we cannot help but admire them for all they did to enrich-our lives. May we of the present generations not forget.

To the many who assisted me in compiling this history I say, "Thank You!" especially do I thank Mrs. John Helland and Mrs. Peter Egenes.
