Garden Club
The interest that Frances Barkley and Clara Ellingson had in house plants, flowers and gardening prompted the organization of the Garden Club. These two ladies arranged for a meeting at the home of Clara Ellingson on February 11, 1949 at which time the club was organized. Frances Barkley was elected chairman, Clara Ellingson, vice chairman and Mildred Helland secretary and treasurer.
The purpose of the club is to better acquaint its members with the different varieties of houseplants, flowers and how to be successful in raising them.
The club meets once a month in the home of one of the members. It is not a fund raising club, but is supported by monthly dues of the members. It contributed to various benevolences and local projects. It is responsible for the beautiful flowering crab, which grows near the fire station.
The club was not officially named until July 20, 1951, when it was decided to call it "Garden Club."
The charter members of the club are: Frances Barkley, Clara Ellingson, Mildred Holland, Cleo Tett, Ursal Ringgenberg, Alberta Ellingson, Marjorie Thompson, Catherine Craig, Pearl Tett, Emma Mannes, Rozella DuBois, and Agnes Severson.
