Harvest Scene

AN EARLY DAY threshing rig and crew. Around the turn of the century this was very much the scene during the harvest season. Appearing in this picture were Engineer, Winnie Carver; manager, F. J. Tett and water boy, John Tisdale. Helpers were Jim Carver, N. R. Nelson, Ole Jensen, Harry Lightfoot, Earl Peck, Fred Schauper, Charles Menzel, Ernest Sapp, Grip Fitch, Charles Tett, Tom Carver, Willie Tett, John Solbrack. Visitors are seen in the background. Huge meals were served to the crews by the wife of the man for whom they were threshing. She was assisted by neighbors and friends. These were the days of the family size farm and there was not so much to be threshed but even so, sometimes it was necessary for the farm wife to plan for more than one meal per day for the crew and very often for more than one day.
