November 2, 1981. Recently the Maxwell and Collins school boards met to review the present sharing situation between the schools. The boards discussed the possibility of looking at increasing the sharing arrangement for the coming years and also the possibility of reorganization of the two districts in the future. No action was taken at the meeting. However, the Maxwell board decided to look into the sharing arrangement further and also to ask the Department of Public Instruction to conduct a study involving Collins and Maxwell. The study will be general and will contain enrollments that project enrollments of the two districts.
Collins will also be having a similar study with the Colo Community School.
November 4, 1981. Collins City Election. Mayor Jack L. Christie, Jr. 67, Council members: Clifford Dalbey 67, Bonnie Jean Evans 52, Rick L. Good 47.
December 3, 1981. Collins School closings, late starts, and early dismissals will be announced over WHO radio, 1040 again this year. Ordinarily the decision will be made before 6:30 a.m., but may be delayed until 7:00 or 7:30 a.m. when conditions are very questionable. Parents are asked to listen to the radio.
There will be an elementary and secondary music concert for the school band and chorus on December 22, 1981. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the school. The program is: Grades K-4 will present miscellaneous Christmas songs; the 5-8 grade chorus will present a musical, "No Vacancy," and the high school bands and chorus will perform Christmas selections. There is no charge for the programs.
December 7, 1981. The Collins Girls basketball team led throughout the game until the final 13 seconds; Grand Community made a basket to clinch a 54-53 victory. Collins scoring: Kristi Richardson 25, Karen Smith 13, Tammy Heidemann 11, Becky Newlin 4. The guards had a strong defensive game. Dana Reitan 14 rebounds and 6 blocked shots; Janice Brafford had 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
Collins Clippers trailed 20-10 at the first quarter and final score: Grand Community of Boxholm 70, Collins 41. Scoring: Jeff Sesker 16, Mike Lovig 9, Steve Coughenour 6, Ric Salyers 4, Denny Lillard 4, David Klemme. Salyers had 9 rebounds.
Colo girls defeated Collins 57-50.
Colo boys defeated Collins 59-35.
December 9, 1981. Maxwell boys had 30-18 halftime lead and were not threatened as they defeated Collins boys 59-42. Collins scoring: Steve Coughenour 15, Jeff Sesker 11, Ric Salyers 8, Mike Lovig 4, Denny Lillard 2, Joe Hudson 2.
December 14, 1981. Mingo defeated Collins Girls 61-55. Collins trailed by 1 point at halftime. Collins scoring: Kristi Richardson 32, Karen Smith 12, Tammy Heidemann 11. Collins guards rebounding: Janice Brafford 14 rebounds and stole 6 passes, Dana Reitan 5. Dana picked up 3 fouls in the first 2 minutes, which handicapped the Collins defense.
Collins boys went into halftime leading by 26-23. The second half was dominated by Mingo, leading to 75-47 margin over Collins. Collins scoring: Steve Coughenour 19, Jeff Sesker 13, Ric Salyers 7, Mike Lovig 5, David Klemme 4.
