June 29, 1981. The Collins girls and Maxwell had 9 innings to decide the game with Maxwell 8-7. The Clipperettes had 17 base hits to just 7 for Maxwell and committed 2 less errors, but were unable to get the runners to home base. Collins had 25 runners that were either stranded on base or thrown out while running the bases. Tammy Heidemann had 4 hits in 5 at-bats.

Dunshee hit his 5th home run in the last 6 games and added a pair of singles. Sesker had a key 2-run single in the game. The Clippers' conference record is 9-3. The Clippers, winners of the league's western division, will play Garwin, a runner-up in the eastern division at Colo Monday night. The eastern division champ SEMCO will play Mingo at 6:00 p.m. in the first game. The two winners will meet at 8:00 p.m. on July 9.

July 7, 1981. Four class state baseball will be played for the first time this year. The class breakdown is: Class 4A -- largest 64 schools; Class 3A -- next 96 largest schools; Class 2A -- next 129 schools; Class 1A will be the balance of the schools. Only Class 1A schools are required to compete in sectional play. District winners advance to sub-state. Sub-state winners advance to state tournament at Marshalltown. All four championship games will be played on Saturday, August 1. There will be no consolation games.
