The Collins Boys trailed Maxwell 20-15 after the first quarter and 31-26 at halftime. Collins outscored Maxwell 12-2 in the 3rd quarter and went on to a 64-54 victory. Scoring: Bill Dunshee 27, Brad Oswalt 10, Jim Huggins 10, Jeff Sesker 8, Mark Hudson 5, Steve Coughenour 4. Collins boys are 13-2 for the season.
February 9, 1981. Collins Boys clinched a tie for the Mid-Iowa Conference title, defeating SEMCO 43-41 on a last second shot by Bill Dunshee. Collins led by one point at half, with SEMCO leading 35-28 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The teams were tied with one minute left when Collins stole the ball and stalled down to 15 seconds. They took timeout; when play resumed Dunshee took the inbound pass, worked into the lane, making a 10-foot jump shot for the game's final two points as SEMCO was unable to get a short off as time expired. Scoring: Bill Dunshee 16, Mark Hudson 16, Brad Oswalt 5, Jim Huggins 4, Jeff Sesker 2. Rebounding: Hudson 14, Dunshee 5, Oswalt 4. The Clippers are 7-1 in conference and 14-2 overall.

February 16, 1981. The Collins Boys overcame a 1st quarter deficit, defeating United 68-46 to earn the Mid-Iowa Conference title with an 8-1 record. The season record is 15-2. LDF is the only league team to defeat Collins. February 20, 1981. Collins Girls lost to Mingo 70-53 in the first round of the Sectional Tournament. Kristi Richardson had her highest scoring night of her career -- 47 points with a 17 for 24 performance at the free throw line. Karen Smith, Karen Partridge, and Tammy Heidemann each scored 2 points. In the defensive court Janice Brafford had 8 rebounds and is the 5th leading rebounder in the Mid-Iowa Conference. Dana Reitan -- 6 rebounds.
February 23, 1981. Collins Boys slipped by Nesco in the first round of the Class lA Sectional Tournament 38-37.Collins had only 6 free throws and of the game total 16. Brad Oswalt scored a 2-pointer, and the Clippers were forced to foul with just 19 seconds remaining. Nesco missed the first free throw and Collins rebounded and Oswalt scored his 2nd two--pointer with only 6 seconds remaining to decide the game. Coach Bill Brooks was pleased with the win but didn't think his team handled the slowdown well. He noted that several teams have slowed the game down against Collins recently.
