February 4, 1980. The Collins Clippers handed Semco their first loss of the season with a 61-58 conference victory on the Collins floor. Collins is now tied with LDF for conference lead. Playing without 6'8" junior center, Mark Hudson, who is out with a sprained ankle, the Clippers played what Coach Bill Brooks called, "the best game my team has played." With the score tied at 58, and only 30 seconds left in the game, Mark Huntrods drove through the Semco defense for a layup and two-point lead. Semco's shot with 10 seconds left missed and Collins controlled the rebound and was fouled immediately. Dunshee made one free throw for the final 61-58 score. Scoring: Mark Huntrods 18, Brad Oswalt 17, Barry Dodd 13, Bill Dunshee 11, John Fish 2. Clippers season record is 13-1. Conference mark is 7-1.
February 7, 1980. The Collins Clippers had a horrible time getting started Tuesday night on the United court, but battled back from a 20-4 first quarter deficit to defeat United 45-42, clinching a tie for the Ta Ma Ja Conference championship. Coach Bill Brooks said, "I think we played the best defense we played all year in the second and third quarters, as we held United to 5 points in the second quarter and 6 points in the third quarter." Collins outscored United 20-11 in the final fourth quarter. Scoring: Barry Dodd 17, Mark Huntrods 12, Bill Dunshee 7, John Fish 5, Mark Oswalt 4. Collins had strong rebounding: Oswalt 9, Huntrods 7, Dunshee 6, John Fish 6.
February 8, 1980. Hot Lunch Menu. Mon. Pizza, buttered corn, rice, fruit, milk. Tues. Wiener winks, pork and beans, Jello, cookie, milk. Wed. Spaghetti with meat sauce, lettuce salad, hot rolls, fruit, milk. Thurs. Fish sandwich, carrot sticks, cake with topping, milk. Fri. Beef and noodles, cabbage salad, hot rolls, fruit, chocolate milk.
February 11, 1980. The Collins Booster Club's first annual sixth and seventh grade boys and girls basketball tournament will begin this Wednesday night with four games scheduled. There will be four more first round games Friday, and a championship round in the four classes on Saturday. Teams participating are: Collins, Maxwell, Colo, and Nevada. There will be a charge of .50 for each of the three nights. All games will be played at the Collins high school gym.
February 12, 1980. Ta Ma Ja All-Conference boys teams named: Collins senior guard Mark Huntrods and junior forward Bill Dunshee were named to the First Team. Collins junior Mark Hudson was named to the boys Second Team. Honorable Mention, junior Barry Dodd. Final Boys Conference Standings: Collins 8-1, Semco 8-1, Garwin 7-2, LDF 6-3, Baxter 4-5, United 4-5, Green Mountain 3-6, Colo 3-6, Mingo 2-7, Maxwell 0-9.

February 18, 1980. The Collins Clippers decisively defeated Central Dallas 79-38 at Central Dallas Thursday night for a season record of 15-1. The Clippers used their fast break to profession as they ran up a 17-6 lead in the first quarter. Barry Dodd, who Coach Brook said played his best game of the year, led the Clippers with 18 points, Bill Dunshee 17 points and 8 rebounds, Mark Huntrods 16 points and 5 rebounds, Mark Oswalt 6 points, Dave Ball 6 points, Mark Hudson 4 points, Jim Huggins 4 points, Steve Coughenour 4 points, John Fish 2, Kurt Cheville 2.
