December 10, 1979. The Clipperettes won their second season victory 70-58 over Baxter on the Collins gym. Baxter led 34-30 at halftime. Collins led by 3 at the 3rd quarter and continued to Ta Ma Ja Conference victory 70-58. Scoring: Kristi Richardson 45 (16 of 22 free throws), Tracy Hofer 20, Jean Huntrods 5. December 13, 1979. The Clipperettes trailed Mingo 32-15 at halftime on the Mingo court. Collins outscored Mingo 37 to 20 in the final half, coming up three points short 55-52 loss to Mingo. Scoring: Tracy Hofer 21, Kristi Richardson 19, Jean Huntrods 12.
December 14, 1979. The Collins Clippers' balanced scoring led them past Mingo 85-52. Scoring: Bill Dunshee and Barry Dodd 19 points each, Mark Hudson and Brad Oswalt 12 point each. Rebounding: Hudson, Dunshee, and Oswalt each had 8 rebounds.
December 17, 1979. The Colo girls, on their home court, ranked third in the Class 1-A rankings, had huge 25 point-4 first quarter lead and continued to their fifth victory 84-47 over the Collins girls.

December 24, 1979. The rise of sports in the 70's. Recent figures show 98% of all homes in America have television, which means 98% of the people are somehow involved or affected by sports. High school sports have expanded as well. The playoff system in prep football was begun in the fall of 1972. Annual event is held in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. The advent of Title IX requiring equalization of opportunities in education has forced Iowa's institutions to offer sports for the female athlete. The IGHSAU expanded its state tournament format to accommodate the increased number of basketball teams, creating a four class system with state championship in each division.
