September 8, 1979. Hot Lunch Menu: Mon. Spaghetti with meat sauce, lettuce salad, hot rolls, fruit, milk. Tues. Maidrites, buttered corn, fruit, cookie, milk. Wed. Submarine sandwich, potato salad, apple crisp, milk. Thurs. Lasagna, bread and butter, pears, milk. Fri. Beef burgers, carrot sticks, bar, fruit, chocolate milk.

September 29, 1979. Colo reported an increase of nine students this fall, due to an exceptionally large class entering Kindergarten. Maxwell school reports enrollment 331, down 18 from 349 previous year. Collins community school has 174 students, down eight from last year's 182.

Collins School enrollment in each grade: K - 13; 1st. - 16; 2nd - 12; 3rd - 13; 4th - 7; 5th - 7; 6th - 20; 7th - 10; 8th - 22; 9th - 7; 10th - 15; 11th - 17; 12th - 14.

November 21, 1979. School board members from public schools throughout Iowa will meet in Des Moines Thursday and Friday, November 15 and 16 for the annual convention of the Iowa Association of School Boards. The meeting includes fifteen hours of addresses and workshops on educational topics and the opportunity to examine many kinds of school equipment on display in Veterans Auditorium. About 1600 school board members participate of a total of 2500 in the state. That is the highest percentage in the nation among such conferences.

November 21, 1979. The Colo Devilettes topped the Collins Clipperettes 71-61 on Collins home court in both clubs' season opener. Colo is ranked seventh in Class 1-A preseason ratings. Colo led at halftime 36-31 and led throughout the second half. Collins scoring: Tracy Hofer 31, Kristi Richardson 22, Jean Huntrods 8. Colo also won the girls junior varsity game 33-24.

Scalloped potatoes with ham, hot rolls, green beans, fruit, milk. Fri. Maidrites, buttered corn, Jello, cinnamon roll, chocolate milk.

November 27, 1979. Who's Who Students, 355 of them from across the nation, compete for over $50,000 in scholarship awards. Final selection is determined on the basis of criteria which include high achievement in academics and leadership in school activities, athletics or community service. Traditionally, ninety-nine percent of Who's Who Students have a grade point average of B or better and ninety-seven percent are college-bound. Collins Who's Who Students Barry Dodd, Charles Fish, Jean Huntrods, Troy Thornton, Tracy Hofer, and Mark Huntrods.

November 27, 1979. Collins Clippers is tabbed a solid favorite to take the crown in the Boys Ta Ma Ja Conference, holding a sizeable lead over Semco and Garwin in the Coaches' Preseason Poll. Collins received 68 points, Semco 54, Garwin 53, LDF 46, United 44, Colo 40, Maxwell 31, Baxter 23. Green Mountain 16, Mingo 10.

November 30, 1979. Starting at forward for the Clipperettes will be seniors Tracy Hofer and Jean Huntrods and sophomore Kristi Richardson, three seniors in the guard court: Rhonda Smith, Alice Coughenour, Karen Barrett and Janice Brafford will seek plenty of action.
