February 22, 1979. Boys 1-A Basketball Sectional. Collins boys won the first round of sectional tournament over Maxwell 70-52. Scoring: Mark Huntrods 18, Bill Dunshee 16, Barry Dodd 14. Clippers hit 33 of 61 field goal shots.
February 22, 1979. The Collins "Showtime" curtain will arise at 8:00 p.m. in the Collins gym. Costs for the show or dinner is $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for children. Those that wish to attend both, ticket price is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.
February 23, 1979. North Polk overcame Collins boys 61-49 in the Class 1-A Sectional final at Madrid. Scoring: Mark Huntrods 14, Bill Dunshee 12, Charles Fish 10, Barry Dodd 7, Tracy Armentrout 4, Brad Oswalt 2.

April 4, 1979. E. Wayne Cooley, Executive Secretary of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union set some heads spinning Monday on his announcement at the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Convention that he will recommend classification of the Iowa girls basketball. Cooley, however, said that unlike the boys tournament, the proposal would still result in the single state championship.
May 1, 1979. Ta Ma Ja Track meets at Colo. LDF had a clean sweep in the conference track meets. LDF boys won by 11 point margin over United. LDF girls won by 29 1/2 points over Mingo. Collins boys scored one point and Collins girls also one point.

May 19, 1979. Commencement Exercises at Collins High School were held last night at 8:00 p.m. in the Collins gym. Rev. William Seward delivered the invocation and benediction and Karen Stratton and the Christian Church choir provided music. Thirteen seniors received their diplomas from Gary Horn, President of the Collins School Board. Randall Betz, Superintendent, presented the honor students and awarded scholarships.
May 25, 1979. Collins Clippers flayed Roland-Story 18-1 in the Story County Boys Baseball tournament at Ames. The Collins Clippers scraped by Green Mountain 12-9 in a three and a half hour game Wednesday. All the Collins players had a hit except Mark Huntrods who walked three times. Huntrods had four hits in the Green Mountain game. "We hit the ball well. It was fun," said Clipper Coach Bill Brooks.
June 17, 1979. The Maxwell girls softball defeated Collins 11-4.
