Watch for the April report!
February 18, 1926 Story County Athletic Association will join in their fifth annual (began in 1922) basketball tournament for boys at Huxley, Friday and Saturday, February 19, and 20th. Fifteen schools are entered. The tournament is divided in two classes, A and B schools. The schools in class A are: Collins, McCallsburg, Colo, Gilbert, Huxley, Maxwell, Roland, Slater, Story City and Zearing. The schools in class B are: Fernald, Kelley, Milford, North Grant and Shipley. The first game will be called at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, Feb. 19th, and the second sesson will be that evening at 8 o’clock. R. G. Rapp of Ames will be referee.
February 25, 1926 The Thundering Herd, another of Zane Grey’s great novels, All Star Cast and lots of action, Collins High School, February 27th, 8 p.m., admission, 20 cents and 35 cents.
March 11, 1926 Collins High School First in State English Tests. In the first Iowa test on English Essentials the Collins High School led with a median of 84. A second test will be given in April. We hope to raise our median very much, and of course, we wish to again maintain the lead. The following paragraph is quoted from the letter Miss Shomler received from Dr. M. F. Carpenter, assistant Professor of English at the State University:
“There was one thing about your record which especially appealed to me. Your report was the second or third to come to my hands. Often when a test like the one just given is sent out, there is an uncomfortable suspicion on the part of those conducting the test that certain schools keep the test by them and indulge in special preparation before giving it. The promptness with which you gave the test and sent in your reports shows clearly that you took no such unfair advantage. Your success is absolutely clean cut, and you have every reason to be proud of it.”
March 11, 1926 Forty Winks, A big New Comedy, and an All Star Cast, Collins High School, March 13th, 8 p.m., admission 10 cents and 20 cents.
