January 12, 1977. New Providence visited the Collins gym Tuesday night and went home with a pair of victories. The Indians won the girls game 80-62 and the boys won 70-65 over Collins. Collins girls were without leading scorer, Chris Dunshee, out of action with the measles. Scoring: Tracy Thornton 23, Tammy Kingman 21, Jolene Brafford 17, Sheila Heidemann 1. The New Providence boys decisively outscored Collins boys22-9 in the 3rd quarter that greatly helped with their 70-65 victory. New Providence used its size advantage to take a 45-29 margin on rebounding. January 12, 1977. Collins girls, minus its entire regular forward court, (Cindy Dunshee had measles; Tracy Thornton was also ill, Tammy Kingman injured a knee early in the game) had all sorts of difficulties Monday night and tumbled to LDF 68 to 29 in Ta-Ma-Ja conference action.

January 20, 1977. Collins Homecoming festivities have been held all week at Collins High School for their homecoming basketBall games Friday night. Candidates for King and Queen were selected Tuesday by the student body, and will be crowned Friday night following the boys game. Candidates are: Jim Wright (James and Hazel Wright), Jim Atwood (Gene and Dorthy Atwood), Jeff Titus (Bob and Alta Titus), Mike McDermott (Don and Marlene Cole), Chris Dunshee (Bill and Dorothy Dunshee), Terry Hugen (Ken and Shirley Hugen), Darcy Tjelmeland (Wally and Norma Tjelmeland), Sandy Dodd (Max and Lola Dodd).
On Monday the students held "Jersey and Jeans" Day, Tuesday was "Goofy" Day, Wednesday was "Favorite Star" Day, Thursday was "Dress up" Day, Friday will be "Blue and White" Day. Thursday night, a bonfire behind the school at 6:30 p.m. followed by a poster making competition. School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Following the basketBall games and crowning of the King and Queen a victory dance will be held from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. in the study hall.
January 21, 1977. Excerpts - Teachers support merger. To the editor: Any major decision an individual or group makes involves careful weighing of alternatives and considerations in both the pro and con positions. We feel the Collins-Maxwell School consolidation has beneficial points that far outweigh the disadvantages. The first and most important advantage of the merger is the broader educational program which would be provided for the students.
