December 4, 1976. Collins basketBall teams took two wins home from Baxter. The girls won 75-67 with 49% shooting. Tracy Thornton had record scoring with 35 points, Chris Dunshee 27, Kingman 7, Brafford 6. Guards rebounding: Karen Ball 12, Terry Hugen 8, Sue Long 6. Collins girls also had 76% (19 of 25) free throw shooting.
Collins boys overcame Baxter 55-48. Coach McNeill said, "Mike McDermott and Marvin Hampton each sinking 5 free throws in the last 5 minutes of the game was critical." Collins scoring: Marvin Hampton 11, Doug Klemme 10, Jeff Titus 9, Mike McDermott 9, Jim Wright 7, Charles Fish 5. Collins had 37 rebounds and Baxter claimed 36. Collins' weak spot was 30 turnovers.
December 8, 1976. It was an unusual situation -- Maxwell and Collins playing basketBall, but the games not counting toward the Ta-Ma-Ja Conference standing. "With the new makeup of the conference, only Friday night games count in the standings." Maxwell girls won the middle 2 quarters and posted their 4th victory of the year 74-52 over Collins girls. Deb Fuller of Maxwell and Chris Dunshee of Collins each scored 34 points.Other Collins scoring: Tracy Thornton 12, Tammy Kingman 2, Jolene Brafford 2, Jean Huntrods 2.
Maxwell boys had unanswered scoring streaks of 10 points twice in the first half as they defeated Collins boys 84-55. Maxwell had 4 players in double figures and Collins only 1. December 10, 1976. The Collins Clipperettes lost a heartbreaking game to Colo as the Blue Devils took home a 58-57 victory. This is the second 1-point victory Colo girls have taken from Collins. Colo coach said the turning point in the game was when Collins' Chris Dunshee fouled out in the 4th quarter. "That gave us a boost." The Colo boys won over Collins boys 62-48. Collins' coach Ron McNeill expressed great disappointment in his team's loss stating, "Do you realize that we scored 48 points and never ran one offensive play all night." He also blamed poor defensive play and foul trouble as he noted 30 turnovers during the game. Rebounding: Colo 55, Collins 36.
