Maxwell girls had a decisive victory 13-1 over Collins girls in a Ta-Ma-Ja Conference game. Tracy Thompson had 2 hits and Sue Long 1 for the Clipperettes.
June 21, 1976. LDF boys at Collins. LDF scored just 1 earned run in the game, but took advantage of 8 Collins errors to score 7 unearned runs in the 6th innings to break open the game in defeating Collins 11-3. Collins pitchers allowed 9 hits, 4 strikeouts, walked 7, and 8 team errors. Steve Oglesby and Kirk Patterson pitched. Collins is 5 and 5 on the season, 5-4 in conference action. Ron Holsinger is lost to the team for the season with a broken collar bone, suffered in the Maxwell game earlier in the week.
June 22, 1976. Collins boys scored 5 runs in the last two innings to come from behind to defeat SEMO 6-4 in Ta-Ma-Ja conference baseball action. Kirk Patterson started for the Clippers with Steve Oglesby relief pitching in the 6th and 7th inning for the victory. Both pitchers allowed only 4 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Collins had 7 hits for the game, and committed 4 errors. Hits: Charles Fish 2, Patterson, Oglesby, Anderson, and McDermott 1 hit each.
June 24, 1976. Collins boys capped a 3-games in 3 days spree with its 3rd straight win Wednesday night as the Clippers stopped Green Mountain 5-4 in a Ta-Ma-Ja Conference thriller. Season record 8-4. The Clippers took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd, then stretched it to 5-3 with 3 tallies in the 4th. Oglesby hurled a 5-hitter, ending the last inning with 2 strikeouts: 8 strikeouts for the game and 3 walks. Collins committed 5 fielding errors. Oglesby had 2 hits, while Jim Anderson, Jim Titus, and Mark Hampton each had singles.
June 30, 1976. Collins boys scored the tying run in the last of the 7th, then 1 in the last of the 8th, to nip Baxter 7-6 in Ta-Ma-Ja Conference action Monday night. Jim Anderson's 2 out, 2-strike single in the 7th scored Steve Oglesby with the tying run. Collins won the game in the last of the 8th when Jim Titus was hit by a pitch and Jim Wright hit a long double, enabling Titus to score. Anderson paced Collins with 3 hits, followed by Willard with 2. Charles Fish started the game with Kirk Patterson relieving in the 4th inning and completing the game.
Collins boys wins another thriller with Steve Lillard's home run, 1 of 2 Collins' homers in a game at Collins. Mike McDermott's run-scoring single capped a 2-run 6th to enable Collins to defeat Garwin 5-4 in Ta-Ma-Ja baseball game. Steve Oglesby, winning pitcher, hammered a home run over the center field fence in the 1st inning. Each team had 8 hits, but Oglesby provided an edge with 13 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Marv Hampton stole home base for a run in the 5th inning. Lillard, Hampton, each had 2 base hits and Oglesby, Anderson, Jim Wright, and McDermott each had singles. Collins season record 10-5, league record 10-4, tying Maxwell for 2nd place.
July 1, 1976. Collins girls broke a 15-15 tie with 7 consecutive runs in the 3rd inning late in the game at Collins as the Clipperettes defeated Garwin for their 3rd girls softball Ta-Ma-Ja conference victory. Collins is now 3-13 on the season. Chris Dunshee led the Collins team with a 2-run homer in the 1st inning, 2 additional RBIs later in the game; Rhonda Smith also drove in 5 runs. Sue Long and Jolene Brafford each had 2 hits. Rhonda Smith picked up the victory, allowing only 4 hits, 2 strikeouts, and walked 19. Rhonda gave up just 7 walks in a 7-4 loss to Baxter the night before.
