June 8, 1976. Collins boys grabbed a 6-0 lead in the 1st 3 innings and rolled past Baxter 11-2 on their diamond on a Ta-Ma-Ja conference game. Steve Lillard pitched a 3-hitter, striking out 4 and walking only 3. Jim Anderson hit a home run; Steve Oglesby had 2 hits, and Mike McDermott had a 2-run single. Collins had 4 errors, but offset these with 2 double plays.
June 9, 1976. Collins boys' recent torrid bats continued as the Clippers blasted 4 home runs in defeating Garwin 18-4 in 5 innings on Garwin's diamond in Ta-Ma-Ja Conference game. Collins league record: 4 wins, 3 losses. Jim Anderson led the offense, connecting for 2 home runs and a double, driving in 7 runs. Anderson had hit home runs in 3 consecutive games. Doug Klemme also slammed a 3-run homer, plus Steve Oglesby's solo homer in the 1st inning. Oglesby pitched -- 8 hits, 8 strikeouts, 0 walks.
June 9, 1976. Collins girls won their 1st game of the season over Baxter 15-8 during a Ta-Ma-Ja Conference game at Baxter. The Clipperettes had 15 hits. Rhonda Smith, Clipperettes, limited the home team to 3 hits, struck out 2, and also walked 12. Terry Hugen had 3 hits, including a triple, and Chris Dunshee had 2 doubles and a single, plus Tracy Thornton had 2 doubles and a single. Sue Oglesby added a triple; and Darcy Tjelmeland had a triple. Collins had a big 6th inning when the winners clutched the victory with 8 runs after trailing 7-3 going into the inning. Collins collected 14 hits for the game and they had only 3 errors.
June 14, 1976. Collins wins both ends of a Ta-Ma-Ja Conference Baseball/Softball double header at Collins for a total margin of only 3 runs. The girls game was a pitcher's duel, 23-22. The Clippers improved their conference mark to 5-2 with 8-6 victory over Colo. The Clipperettes scored 5 runs in the last of the 7th for a 23-22 victory over Colo in the softball game, giving the fans who stayed until midnight more than they bargained for. Sue Long had 3 hits, driving in 3 runs and Doreen Krausman also had 3 hits, driving in 4 runs.
Collins Clipperettes ended with a 12-7 hitting advantage, but Collins kept their chances in jeopardy by committing 11 errors in addition to allowing 21 walks. Colo pitching also gave up 20 walks.
The Collins boys built an early 6-2 margin, then held on through 7 costly errors, but defeated Colo 8-6. Collins outhit Colo 9-4, but much of the advantage was given away with throwing errors. Steve Oglesby pitched a 4-hitter, 8 strikeouts, and only 2 walks. Collins hits: Jim Anderson, Steve Oglesby, Mike McDermott 2 hits each.
June 16, 1976. Collins at Maxwell double header. Maxwell boys had to rally from a 5-2 deficit in the 4th inning and the Rockets tied the game in the 5th inning. Steve Lillard and Kirk Patterson each had doubles as the Clippers scored 5 runs in the 4th inning. Rod Strom hit a home run over the left field fence in the last of the 7th to boost Maxwell past Collins 7-5. Steve Oglesby gave up 9 hits, 8 strikeouts, and only 2 walks. Each team committed only 1 error.
