February 12, 1976. Girls Sectional Tournament opens Saturday, February 14. Collins vs Nevada at Alleman 6:30 p.m.
February 16, 1976. Nevada decidedly defeated Collins girls in the opening round, 102-53. Collins scoring: Chris Dunshee 28, Tracy Thornton 15, Julie Lehman 8, Jolene Brafford 2. Shooting - 34%. Guard Rebounding: Karen Ball 7, Dunshee 5, Lehman and Sue Long 4 each.
March 8-12 1976. Hot Lunch Menu: Mon. Tomato soup, toasted cheese sandwich, fruit, cookie, milk. Tues. Goulash, green beans, hot rolls, fruit, milk. Wed. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, cabbage, fruit, milk. Thurs. Beef and noodles, mixed vegetables, hot rolls, apple crisp, milk. Fri. Fish sandwich, buttered peas, creamed potatoes, bar cookie, milk.
March 29, 1976. Nevada Invitational Basketball Tournament
Sixth grade girls consolation game. Collins scoring: Karla Richardson 16, Janice Brafford 4, Deb Marrs 3, winning 3rd place. Collins guards: Karen Stratton and Dana Reitan, Brenda Morrison, and Joan Flett. The guards held Nevada scoreless in the 2nd quarter, while the offense was pouring points to victory.
Seventh grade boys championship game. Collins scoring: Collins trailed most of the game until Jim Huggins hit a 3-point play and Brad Oswalt followed with a lay-in to win the game. Collins scoring: Bill Dunshee 12, Huggins 8, Oswalt 6, Dave Ball 2. Mike Sexton, Mark Hudson, Kirk Cheville, and Tony Yockstick were the other players. McDaniel Insurance led until Dave Wisnieski fouled out midway through the 4th quarter.
April 1, 1976. Collins girls will travel to Adel for their District Track Meet on May 10. This is Class A meet.
A record 486 schools have been assigned to 22 girls district track and field meets to be held on Monday, March 10. This is an increase of 11 from the 475 who competed in 1975. The largest 128 schools are assigned to 8 class 2A districts, with the remaining 358 competing in 14 Class 1A districts. All qualifiers will be competing in a single class state championship meet at Drake University in Des Moines on Friday and Saturday, May 21 and May 22.
April 9, 1976. Nesco Relays. The meet is Monday evening, April 12, with 27 teams on hand in two classes. Collins is in Class B for both girls and boys.
April 14, 1976. The Nesco relays for the Kings (boys) was very difficult for Collins boys, who scored 1 point by Holsinger in the 220 yard dash. Also, difficult for the Collins girls as Collins scored 3 points in the Queen division.
May 4, 1976. Ta-Ma-Ja Conference Relays. The team scoring is: 1st Maxwell 97, 2nd Mingo 58, 3rd LDF 43, 4th Garwin 36, 5th Collins 28, 6th Colo 23, 7th SEMCO 11, 8th Green Mountain 10, 9th Baxter 4. We are unable to determine the scoring system of the meet.
