January 7, 1976. Mingo's early lead was too large for the Collins boys to recover, losing to Mingo 53-45. Collins' floor shooting was 27%. Scoring: Steve Oglesby 14, Charles Fish 6, Jim Wright 5, Matt Carver, Steve Lillard, Mike McDermott, and Ed Hamilton each had 4; Jim Huggins and Bob Huntrods each had 2.
January 9, 1976. Chris Dunshee of the Collins Girls team scored a career high 48 points in the Clipperettes' losing effort to Steamboat Rock 97-84 in the 1st round of the Star Conference Tournament. Teammates' scoring: Tracy Thornton 20, Julie Lehman 16. Collins' 40% shooting was the highest of the season. Tammy Kingman, 5' 10," the tallest of the Collins guards will miss the remainder of the year with a knee injury. Bill Brooks was encouraged by the team's play as "This was one of our best efforts of this season."
January 12, 1976. Collins boys kept the contest close for 3 quarters with Steamboat Rock's breaking the game open in the 4th quarter for a 76-53 victory. Scoring: Bob Huntrods 11, Steve Lillard 10, Doug Klemme 8, Matt Carver 7, Steve Oglesby 6, Jim Anderson 4, Jim Wright 3, Mike McDermott 2, Ed Hamilton 2. Rebounding: Matt Carver 20, Bob Huntrods 18, Steve Lillard 14.
January 14, 1976. Colo had a double-header victory over Collins before an overflow Colo home crowd. The Colo girls had a halftime 47-25 lead and continued this margin for 77-59 victory over the Collins girls. Scoring: Chris Dunshee 32, Julie Lehman 20, Tracy Thornton 7. There were 64 fouls called in the game.
The Colo boys dominated the backboards and also the scoring with 106-67 win over Collins boys. Colo's 2-1 margin in rebounding greatly benefited their scoring. Collins scoring: Jim Wright 21, Steve Lillard 13, Bob Huntrods 10, Matt Carver 10, Steve Oglesby 8, Jim Anderson, Mike McDermott, Doug Klemme, and Ed Hamilton with 2 points each.
January 17, 1976. LDF girls won another Ta-Ma-Ja Conference game 84-63 over the Collins girls. Coach Brooks indicated "We played one of our better games, but we were still inconsistent. Our guards did a good job against a lot of height." Scoring: Julie Lehman 32, Chris Dunshee 19, Tracy Thornton 12. The Clipperettes' shooting percentage was 40%.
January 21, 1976. Garwin took both ends of a Ta-Ma-Ja Conference basketball double-header from Collins; Girls game 64-45, and boys game 82-47. The girls had misfortunate in the 1st quarter with Chris Dunshee angle injury. The team members played strong as Garwin was unable to break the game open until into the 4th quarter. Scoring: Tracy Thornton 16, Chris Dunshee 14, Julie Lehman 11, Jolene Brafford 5. Brooks commented, "The guard court reduced their fouling."
The Garwin boys` shooting 64% outpaced the Collins boys 82-47 result. Scoring: Jim Wright 12, Doug Klemme 9, Kirk Patterson 7, Jim Anderson 4, Bob Huntrods 3, Matt Carver, Jim Huggins, and Charles Fish with 2 each.
