7th grade girls championship finals. Collins rallied from a late 23-20 deficit on a field goal and 2 free throws by Jean Huntrods and a field goal from Janice Brafford for its 26-25 girls championship. Scoring: Tracy Hofer 12, Jean Huntrods 10, Janice Brafford 4. Rhonda Smith, Karen Barrett, Alice Coughenour, Kristy Richardson also saw action for the Clipperettes. The team was coached by high school standouts Cindy Tiffany and Cindy Dunshee.

April 21-24, 1975. Hot Lunch Menu: Mon. Beef and vegetable stew, rolls, fruit, milk. Tues. Fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, buttered peas, fruit, milk. Wed. Bean soup, corn bread, cake with fruit topping, milk. Thurs. Fish sandwich, green beans, cranberry sauce, white cake, milk. Fri. Tomato soup, toasted cheese sandwich, fruit, cookie, milk.

April 21, 1975. Neighboring town of Rhodes old grade school building burned in an 8-hour fire on Sunday. The building was used by Des Moines Auto Parts Company. The gymnasium was saved from the fire.

April 25, 1975. Girls Track District Parings Announced. Collins girls are assigned to Class 1A district meet at Adel. Nearby towns competing are Colfax, Baxter, Maxwell, Mingo, Bondurant-Farrar.

April 30, 1975. LDF Sweeps Ta-Ma-Ja Track Meet in both girls and boys competition. Maxwell was in 2nd place in both divisions. Collins had 29 points in the girls Division 4 -- 6th place. Long Jump -- Mary Beth Kingman was 2nd. In the 440 Yard Relay Collins placed 2nd. In the 100 Yard Dash -- 2nd Mary Beth Kingman. Long Jump -- 2nd Mary Beth Kingman. Soft Ball Throw -- 3rd Morton. High Jump -- 4th Mary Beth Kingman.

May 14, 1975. For the first time since its beginning in 1961 the Iowa Girls State High School Track and Field Championships will be televised State wide. The Iowa Educational Broadcasting network will present video tape of the finals competition on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m.

May 24, 1975. Approximately 600 people viewed Commencement exercises in the school gymnasium Friday evening as 15 Collins seniors received their diplomas. Three students were honored for their classic excellence -- Dennis Long, Bill Partridge, and Cathy Schmitt. Guest speaker was John M. Lee of the Manning School District, speaking on the topic "Its Your Future." Its your future, your responsibility. You can make it what you want. Our future is designed and planned by us. We can make it happen. Anything that happens to you is your responsibility. What you now become is because of you. You will let yourself become that way. The 1975 graduates School Class Motto: "What we think and what we do that makes us what we are."

May 25, 1975. A new superintendent has been hired for the 1975-76 school year. James Stephens, Jr. will replace Mr. Liston, superintendent of Collins School the past two years. The new superintendent is presently elementary principal for the Grand Valley Community School District. A 1958 graduate of Clarinda Community High School, Stephens graduated from Clarinda Junior College in 1960. He received his B. S. E. degree from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College at Maryville in 1964 and is M. S. E. degree in elementary administration in 1972 from Drake University.

June 6, 1975. Collins boys were shut out in a 12-0 baseball game against Maxwell. Collins also was unable to achieve any base hits.
