February 17, 1975. Jill Erickson of Maxwell had one of her best offensive nights of the season with 37 points. Karla Thompson scored 27 and Sheri Thornwall netted 19 for a 88-51 tourney victory over Collins. Scoring for the Collins girls: Cindy Dunshee 41, Julie Lehman 8, Chris Dunshee 2. Collins Rebounding: Cindy Dunshee (f) 7, Cindy (g) 6, Mary Beth Kingman (g) 5, Sue Long (g) 1. Collins completed the season with a record of 9-9.
February 28, 1975. North Polk won their 2nd Sectional Tourney game, defeating Collins boys 64-38. The contest, however, was still undecided late in the 3rd quarter. North Polk built a 37-27 3rd quarter lead. Hot shooting of Matt Carver brought the Clippers back within 6 at 39-33 beginning the final quarter. However, misfortune struck the Clippers as North Polk's zone defense effectively held Collins scoreless for the first 4 1/2 minutes of the quarter with the Comets scoring 16 points during this brief time period. Scoring: Matt Carver 11, Denny Long 10, Steve Lillard, Bob Huntrods, and Mike Ball had 4 each. Steve Oglesby 2, Scott Richardson 2, and Kirk Patterson 1. Ironically, the field goal shooting percentage was the same for both teams -- 38%. North Polk was 12 of 15 from the foul line and Collins was 2 of 8. North Polk rebounding was 45; Collins had only 18.

Chili and crackers, brown bread, carrot sticks, fruit, milk. Thurs. Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, peas, pineapple, upside down cake, milk. Fri. Macaroni and cheese, egg salad sandwich, Jello, cookie bar, milk.
March 18, 1975. Atomic Energy Lecture A demonstration lecture on atomic energy and its uses operated by Oak Ridge Associated Universities will be presented at Collins Jr-Sr High School on March 26 at 10:20 a.m. The program, titled "This Atomic World," is designed to acquaint students with the basis principles of nuclear energy, its sources, and its role in agriculture, industry, medicine, and research. Charles Hill will present the assembly program, which explains in student terms the structure of atoms and the operation of nuclear reactors as well as such concepts of radiation, fission, and fusion. OARU is a nonprofit educational education and research corporation of 42 southern colleges and universities. This atomic world program scheduled here is one of 20 similar units appearing daily at high schools throughout the country. They are part of an extensive traveling exhibit program designed to bring the public a greater understanding of atomic energy and its uses.

March 26, 1975. Ice Storm Closes Schools The schools out of session Thursday included Nevada, Gilbert, Collins, West Marshall, South Hamilton, Ballard, NESCO, and Maxwell.
