October 15, 1974. Story County educators will be participating in the 120th Annual Iowa State Education Association convention in Des Moines this Thursday and Friday. Local schools will be closed during these two days.
October 17, 1974. Colo and Collins tangled in one of the first girls footBall games in the area; game ended 8-8 deadlock. The teams consisted of 11 girls with regular footBall rules except for "no tackling." Julie Lehman swept right in with a 16 yard touchdown for Collins, with Terry Hugen adding the 2-point conversion.

October 25, 1974. School Enrollments Decreased. Collins Community School District, for the second time had the largest percentage of enrollment decline of any school in Polk and Story Counties. Collins lost 26 students for this year's reporting period over last year's total enrollment of 227. The 201 total figure for 1974 indicates 11.45% enrollment decrease.
Collins was not alone as school districts in the two counties have lost a collective 1,695 students between September 1973 and September 1974. Twelve districts lost enrollment while 6 gained. Bondurant-Farrar for the 2nd year had the largest percentage gain -- 3.6% gain over 1973.
Maxwell -- enrollment 357 -- is down 6 from last year, decrease of 1.65%. Colo -- enrollment 344 -- down 19 from last year, decrease of 5.23%.
Comparative High School figures for Story County Schools show the following: Nevada 358, Roland-Story 268, Ballard 253, North Polk 167, Gilbert 113, NESCO 97, Maxwell 88, Colo 73, Collins 55.
November 29, 1974. Collins came home with a victory in the Girls BasketBall contest at New Providence. Cindy Dunshee scored 37 points in the 58-38 win over New Providence. Mary Beth Kingman, playing forward this year, scored 11 points, Chris Dunshee 4, Julie Lehman 2, Tammy Kingman 2.
The Collins Boys were outscored 15-4 in the opening quarter and fell to New Providence 59-37. Collins, under new coach, Ron McNeill faces a major rebuilding year with the loss of all 5 starters from last season's fine quality team. Steve Lillard was top scorer with 10 points.
