February 22, 1973. Boys Sectional Tournament at State Center, second round. Collins defeated Maxwell, leading 37-18 at halftime and 81-42 final score. Coach Bill Behrens said, "The team played much better tonight than Monday night."
February 23, 1973. Boys Sectional Tournament at State Center, Finals. Collins overcame Colo 51-46 to advance to the District Tournament that will be played at Tama. Colo had a halftime lead of 19-18. Collins reeled 9 points in the first 4 minutes of the 3rd quarter and maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game. Scoring and Rebounds: Bill Oswalt 18 (16 rebs), Mark Carver 13, Greg Rhoads 8, Bill Crabb 8 (9 rebs), Steve Carroll 4. Shooting percentage -- 40%. Rebounding: Collins 45; Colo 28.

March 2, 1973. District Tournament Semifinals at Tama. The Clippers played on even terms with the State's third-ranked team, HLV (Victor), most of the way, leading 21-20 at the 1st quarter and a 5 point lead with two minutes remaining in the 1st half. Steve Carroll 15, Mark Carver 12, scores at this juncture in the game. HLV rallied in the final two minutes to take a 47-46 halftime lead. At the ending of the 3rd quarter HLV was leading by 5 points. The Clippers stayed within 6 points until two minutes remained. They were forced to foul and HLV cashed in on the free throws for a 89-75 victory. Collins lost Oswalt, Rhoads, and Crabb in the final period on fouls. Coach Behrens was disappointed with the teams' 17 turnovers in the 2nd half compared to only 7 errors in the 1st half. Scoring: Steve Carroll 25, Mark Carver 21, Greg Rhoads 17, Bill Crabb 6, Bill Oswalt 4, Keith Patterson 2. Shooting percentage: 43%. Free throws: 13 of 23. HKV advances with a 23-0 record.
March 4, 1973. The Collins Adult Education Classes held open house last night, February 26, and the quilting class hosted an exhibit in the school lunch room. There were thirty quilts on display ranging from baby quilt before the civil war vintage and through the latest of embroidered , appliqued as well as the many patterns of pieced blocks, wool pieced (which was a rarity) and feather stitched crazy quilts of wool. A display of the projects on which the class is working demonstrated the use of modern fabrics and designs. One project from the furniture class was a two piece living room set that was beautifully refinished and reupholstered. There were well over 75 visitors.
March 13, 1973. United States Track and Field Federal Girls State Indoor Championship at Drake Fieldhouse, Des Moines, Iowa. Collins placed 2nd with 42 points, Hampton was the title winners with 44 points, and Manilla 3rd with 34. Deb Carroll placed 1st in the one-lap dash and won the 4-lap relay with team members Diana Atwood, Cathy Kingman, Mary Beth Kingman, and Deb Carroll. The Clipperettes also had two second placings and one third placing.
