January 13, 1973. Ta Ma Ja Conference Double Header: Girls - Collins trailed most of the game with SEMCO, but with 30 seconds remaining Deb Carroll made a basket to tie the game. With 18 seconds left, Jan Talburt made a basket to give Collins a 61-59 victory. SEMCO had 34-30 halftime lead. Collins scoring: Deb Carroll 43, Jan Talburt 11, Cindy Dunshee 4, Donna Barrett 3. January 16, 1973. Millage rates in Story County. Property tax millages in 12 of the 15 incorporated cities and towns in Story County will decrease and township millages will drop in every school district except Ames. The county is currently near completing revaluations and if the valuation figures increase, the lower millage may be nullified. Collins township 1972 levy is 73.315 and 1973 levy is 71.011. Town of Collins 1972 levy is 98.960 and 1973 levy is 93.253.
January 18, 1973. Collins Celebrates Homecoming It's homecoming week at Collins, celebrated during the basketball season as Collins has no football team. The festivities begin Thursday evening with a bonfire scheduled at 6:30 p.m. along with cheering and chants. The students will also engage in poster making. Homecoming activities resume at noon on Friday with poster judging. A cartoon film is planned for 2:15 p.m. and a pep meeting at 3:15 p.m. will be highlighted by announcing the class with the best poster. The homecoming basketball games will be Collins vs. Mingo. The King and Queen will be announced following the boys' game. Girls competing for the title of Queen include: Diana Atwood, Roxanne Newman, Jodee Holland, and Darla Stevens. The boys candidates for king are: Steve Carroll, Mark Carver, Bill Crabb, and Greg Rhoads. The annual homecoming dance will be from 9:30 to 11:30 in the high school gym and alumni are welcome to attend.
