January 21, 1925 Girls Win 2, Boys Lose 2 The high school basketball teams of Collins school went to Slater Jan. 8th and the girls were victorious in winning from the Slater team by the score of 44.20. The Slater team proved too much for the Collins boys by the score of 16 to 11. (No box scores found)
On Friday evening of last week both teams went to Gilbert in the afternoon where they played the teams from that town and also had a nice banquet served them and the coaches, and all were well pleased with the way they were treated. The girls’ game was a one-sided victory for Collins by the score of 32 to 10, while the Collins boys were again defeated by the tune of 22 to 15. It seems as though the boys have been playing in hard luck lately, but it is hoped they will start the other games with a determination to win. On Friday evening of this week both teams go to State Center. (No box scores found)
(Insert 2003: Slater, Iowa Historical Association newsletter had an article concerning “Horse Drawn” school buses in 1924. After arriving at school with the children, the bus drivers drove the horses to a barn across the street from the school and fed them oats and hay. They hitched to them to the bus later to take the children home.)
