November 29, 1971. Boys Basketball: Dick Behrens makes his coaching debut at Collins, UNI graduate. Building around a nucleus of three letterman, Behrens feels Collins could be a dark horse. Collins' returning lettermen are: Stan Carroll (Sr.), Steve Carroll (Jr.), Bill Crabb 6.0 foot. Other spot candidates are Bill Huntrods (Sr.), Mark Carver (Jr.), Guy Elliott (Jr.), Bill Oswalt (Soph), Frank Beavers (Soph), Doug Atwood (Jr.), Jerold Fitzgerald (Soph), Keith Patterson (Soph), Ken Caulkins (Soph).
November 30, 1971. The Collins boys junior varsity whipped Baxter 60-31, but the Baxter girls J. V. toppled the Clipperettes 40-31.
December 1, 1971. Girls Basketball: Bondurant-Farrar defeated Collins 49-28. Collins trailed by only 6 points at halftime 22-16.
Boys Basketball: The Clippers lost their first game in two starts as they shot 20% and committed 26 turnovers. Collins trailed by only 4 points at the 4th quarter, losing 68-50.
December 6, 1971. Girls Basketball: LDF showed they are favored to win the Ta-Ma-Ja Conference, defeating Collins 80-41. The Collins team is largely sophomores with LDF an all-senior guard court and high scoring forwards.
Boys Basketball: LDF intercepted a pass to score with 16 seconds left to send the game into overtime, but the Clippers scored 10-2 in the extra three minutes for a 69-61 victory. The game had 35 fouls called on each team for a total of 95 free throw attempts and also 70 turnovers. Collins leading scorers were: Bill Oswalt 19, Steve Carroll 12, Stan Carroll 11, Bill Crabb 10, and Mark Carver 10.
December 8, 1971. Girls Basketball: Mingo girls broke a 44 tie to defeat Collins 49-46. Debbie Carroll scored 29 points. Rebounding leaders were guards Cathy Kingman 8, and Teresa Luing 6.
Boys Basketball: The Clippers defeated Mingo 75-50 with 50% shooting mark. Mark Carver scored 17, Stan and Steve Carroll scored 11 each, and Bill Crabb scored 11.
December 14, 1971. The girls junior varsity. Clipperettes suffered a 64-51 defeat by Bondurant-Farrar girls. Scoring: Cindy Dunshee 20, Mary Beth Kingman 12, Jodee Holland 11.
The boys junior varsity team downed Bondurant-Farrar 60-50. Scoring: Doug Atwood 22, Keith Patterson 11, Ron Phares 9, Jerold Fitzgerald 8.
December 15, 1971. Girls Basketball Collins girls led 20 to 17 over Colo at the end of the 1st quarter, but Colo came back to win 67-58. Scoring: Debbie Carroll 31, Jan Talburt 19, Donna Barrett 4.
