August 31, 1971. Total enrollment is 246 students, decreasing from 257 the past year. There are 19 kindergarten students replacing 30 graduating seniors. Elementary grades 1 through 6 have enrollment of 112; junior high 7th through high school total 134.
September 8, 1971. Baseball Steamboat Rock scored 7 runs in the 5th inning to break a 3-3 tie, defeating Collins 10-3. Five errors contributed to Steamboat Rock's scoring. Bill Crabb had 2 hits, Keith Patterson and Denny Long had 1 hit each. Collins has defeated Green Mountain 9-4 and New Providence 8-2, losing to Pella Christian 10-1 in earlier season games.
September 10, 1971. Baseball Bill Crabb smashed a grand slam home run as Collins defeated New Providence 10-7 on the Collins diamond. Bill Crabb pitched 6 innings and Jerold Fitzgerald pitched the 7th inning.

Sausage patty, mashed potatoes, buttered green beans, chocolate pudding, sandwiches, and milk. Thurs. Huntington chicken, buttered red beans, fruit, toffee bar, sandwiches, and milk. Fri. Tuna sandwich, browned potatoes, coleslaw, cake, sandwiches, and milk.

Monday's school election: Preparation for voting Sept. 13 for school board members is nearing completion for Wednesday's voting. This is the first balloting under rules brought enforce when Story County passed the 50,000 mark in population. However, write-ins are permitted. (Collins election results not found)
