June 2, 1971. School Requirements Are Minimum A school must be pretty poor not to meet the state's minimum requirements for approval according to Earl Miller - Director of Supervision for the Iowa State Department of Public Instruction. No school has been removed from the approved list since 1965 as none are known to be violating the Iowa Code requirements. According to the Iowa Code, elementary schools shall teach language, social studies, language arts, math, science, health, physical education, music, and art. The following shall be taught in grades 7th and 8th: Science, mathematics, social studies, language arts, reading, physical education, music and art. Minimum program for high schools is: Shall teach four units of science that includes physics and chemistry; four units of social studies; four units of English (including language arts); four units of a sequential program in mathematics; one unit of general math; two units of foreign language; one unit of physical education; and five parts of practical arts such as business education, industrial arts, home making, and distributive education.
June 5, 1971. Baseball - Collins was defeated by Maxwell 11-1 in Ta Ma Ja conference game. Collins scored in the 1st inning; Bill Crabb doubled and scored on Bob Rains' double. Maxwell scored twice in the bottom of the 1st, 5 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd and went to the 11-1 victory. The Collins team had 5 hits and made 5 errors.
June 21, 1971. Baseball - Collins was defeated by Semco 14-2 in a conference game on the Collins diamond. Semco scored their 14 runs on 9 hits. Collins 2 runs on 2 hits and committed 8 errors. Collins team has defeated Garwin while losing to LDF, Semco, and Maxwell.
June 24, 1971. The Class of 1945 were hosts for the 1971 Collins Alumni Banquet held in the high school gymnasium May 29 with 281 attending. The 1945 class and hosts were: Mr. and Mrs. Rex Beavers, Mr. and Mrs. Max Dodd, Mrs. Helen Eason, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pritchard, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Oswald of Collins Christian Church, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Carpenter, Mr. and Mrs. John Patterson. Invocation by Rev. Shaeffer of Collins. Senior class was welcomed into the alumni association with a response by Marty Tjelmeland.
