When it came to winning events; Collins took home first prize as the Clipperettes won 6 individual firsts and one relay first place. Deb Carroll won 4 events, qualifying for the State Meet in the 60, 100, and 220 yd dashes, and also the long jump. Collins teammate Diana Atwood will run in 3 State Meet events as she won the 100 and 220 yd hurdles and anchored the Collins Shuttle Hurdle relay team to first place in a School Record 1:06.2 time. May 13, 1971. The Tenth Annual State of Iowa High School Girls Outdoor Track and Field Meet, Under the auspices of the Iowa High School Athletic Union will be held at the Drake Stadium Friday and Saturday in Des Moines. The meet is the largest in the history of girls track with 225 schools and approximately 1500 athletes competing. Last year 195 schools participated. Manilla and BGM of Brooklyn are defending co-champions, each scoring 27 points last year. Manilla has 10 members of last year's co-championship team. Meg Hennessey will carry the hopes of the Manilla team, competing in the 220 yd dash and two relay races. Collins, with two outstanding athletes in Deb Carroll and Diana Atwood and a good 10-flight shuttle hurdle relay team will make a strong bid for the championship. Miss Carroll has been outstanding as a sprinter and is undefeated in the 60, 100, and 220 yd dashes this spring. Miss Atwood will compete in hurdle races and will anchor the 10-flight shuttle hurdle relay team.
