June 20, 1970 Baseball - Collins suffered a defensive collapse as Mingo used 11 errors for a 15-4 five-inning win. Mingo scored 10 runs in the 1st two innings. June 25, 1970 Collins and Maxwell talk reorganization. The Collins Board of education met with the Maxwell Board at Maxwell last week to discuss possibilities of school reorganization. A tour of the Maxwell building was taken and a decision was reached to contact the Dept. of Public Instruction Facilities Section for a survey and recommendations concerning the usage of the Collins and Maxwell school buildings. If the report on the building survey is favorable to both districts, further talks on reorganization will be scheduled. A vote by the school district residents this fall will be a possibility if the original surveys are of a positive nature.

July 13, 1970 Iowa Jaycees Sport Spectacular at Decorah, Iowa. Cathy Carroll won 3 events: Long jump - 17 ft 7 inches; 100 yd dash - 11 seconds; 220 yd dash - 25.7 seconds in the senior division. Intermediate division, Debbie Carroll won 3 events: Long jump - 16 ft; 50 yd dash - 6.3 seconds; 100 yd dash - 11.6 seconds.
July 14, 1970 Sectional Baseball Tournament: First Round - Collins team had a 4-2 lead in the top of the 4th inning, but were unable to hold off Baxter in the last inning, season-ending 6-5 loss. Collins took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd on walks to Ron Beavers and Moses, an error, and a stolen base to score two runs. Baxter tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Collins regained the lead of 4-2 in the 4th on a triple Bob Raines, single by Bill Crabb, single by Gerald Page, an error and a single by Ron Beavers. Baxter tied the game again in their 5th inning as rain pelted the players. Baxter scored another in the bottom of the 6th for a 5-4 lead. Collins gained a tie in the top of the 7th when Bill Crabb tripled and came home on a catcher's interference call. Baxter scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th with two out, with Collins losing 6-5. Bill Crabb pitched: innings - 7, hits - 8, runs - 6, strikeouts - 6, walks 1. July 14, 1970 The largest Iowa single class tournament that determines a high school champion is the 1970 state high school baseball tournament with 440 schools participating. Tournament finals will be held at Carroll Merchants Park. Sectional champions advance to 8 districts and those winners make up the state tournament field. The state summer tournament is the largest as the fall and spring tournaments have fewer entries each year.
