April 18, 1970 Rod Larson, who starred for Roland High School in the mid-1960's, has been named head boys basketball, track, and physical education coach at Collins for next season. Mr. Larson will graduate from the University of Northern Iowa this spring. In his high school playing days, Larson was among the top players in the state. He was named to the 5th team in Iowa Daily Press Associations' all-state selections in 1966, his senior year. He averaged about 20 points per game his senior season. Leg injuries limited his playing time at UNI after he was first team player as a freshman.
April 18, 1970 Green Mountain Track Relays - Collins girls team scored 27 points. April 25, 1970 Drake Relays at Des Moines, Iowa: Cathy Carroll of Collins remained undefeated in the 100 yd. dash as she won the Drake Relays 100 title in 11.3 seconds. She bested some of the top girls athletes in the state: Meg Hennessey of Manila (11.4), Kay Jordan of Farragut (11.6), Mary Hand of Lamoni (11.6), Marchia Tomson of Manila (11.7).
