August 29, 1968 Superintendent After five years in the Collins Community School system, Supt. T. J. Reith has asked the Collins Board of Education for a release from his contract effective in June 1969. His present contract expires officially in 1970. Supt. Reith said he and the board have a "mutual understanding" concerning the release. The Reith's have purchased a home in Bradenton, Florida and plan to move there.
August 31, 1968 School Board Howard Hofer, who farms north of Collins, has filed for the vacancy on the board of education of the Collins School. Running unopposed, he will fill the position left by the expiration of the term of Russell Oswalt. Mr. Oswalt served on the board for the past six years. Marie Morrison, incumbent treasurer, has filed for re-election.

The Collins Clippers pounded out 25 hits as they outlasted New Providence 24-11 in a marathon game that took over three hours. The Clippers led 8-0 after 1 ? innings, but could not get the 10-run margin until the final inning. Marvin Huntrods had 5 hits, including 2 doubles. Bob Earle had 4 hits, including a triple and a double, and John Hale had 3 hits, with 6 runs batted in. Each Collins starter had at least 2 hits. September 12, 1968 Baseball Collins continued to score runs defeating Green Mountain 10-6. In three games this fall, the Clippers have scored 43 runs. John Evans hit a 2-run home run in the first inning. Collins scored in every inning except the 2nd. John Hale pitched shut-out ball for 3 innings with the Clippers leading 6-0. September 13, 1968 Sectional Baseball Tournament Collins and Roland are the only two Story County schools fielding baseball teams this fall. Sectional Tournament play begins Saturday with Collins facing Freemont on the Pella Christian diamond. Should they win, they will play the winner of Green Mountain vs. Pella Christian game. Only 81 schools are entered in the tournament as fall baseball continues to decline.
September 16, 1968 Sectional Baseball Tournament - First Round: Collins Clippers continued to pound the baseball as they routed Freemont 24-14 in a 5 innings in a first round game. Second round game is against Pella Christian on Monday. Collins took a 4-0 lead in the top half of the 1st inning and trailed 9-4 after one complete inning. Collins rallied back to score 8 runs in the 3rd and 8 runs in the 4th inning for the victory. Gordon Carver hit 2 doubles and a single for 6 runs batted in. He cleared the bases with one bases-loaded double. Jim Titus also had 3 hits, including a double, while John Evans had 2 hits and scored 5 runs. Bob Earles had 2 hits and all the other Clippers each had one hit for a team total of 15 hits. The Freemont pitchers walked 17 batters, aiding the Collins victory.
