March 15, 1968 Basketball Season Scoring Maxwell boys ran up an average of 84 points per game to rank as the season's highest scoring team in Nevada Journal land. Their defensive average was 61 points. Collins boys won - 9; lost - 10; Offensive average per game - 62 pts.; Defensive average per game - 59 points.
In girls basketball Maxwell girls also had best offensive average per game - 78 points. North Polk at best defensive average per game - 46 points. Collins girls won - 4; lost - 14; Offensive average per game - 51 pts.; defensive average per game - 70 points.
April 10, 1968 Honor Roll for third nine-weeks: Seniors - Kathy Hunt, Karen Jacobson, Larry Kelderhouse, Mike Kimberley, Barbara Oswalt, Jack Richeson. Juniors - Chris Atwood, Linda Carroll, Lois Gross, Diane Huntrods, JoAnn Novinger, Mary Rice, Jerry Whitaker. April 12, 1968 Baseball - Four runs in the third inning pushed Collins Clippers past NESCO 6-3. Third inning - John Hale and Steve Holland walked, Roger Holland tripled, driving in the first 2 runs. John Evans walked, stole second and both Holland and Evans scored on a throwing error. NESCO scored their three runs in the 6th inning. Roger Holland pitched: Innings - 5, hits - 2, runs - 0, strikeouts - 12, walks - 1. John Hale pitched: Innings - 2, hits - 2, runs - 3, strikeouts - (?), walks (?). Team hits - 4, fielding errors - 2.
April 18, 1968 Boys Track - Collins Clippers won their season opening track meet 73-43 over Mingo. Collins won all the relays, all the field events, and also took one 1st in running events. Steve Holland won the high jump (5' 8") and ran on the winning medley and 440 yd. relay teams to take honors as the top individual of the meet. Mike Mullihan won the broad jump and also ran on the medley relay team.
Boys Junior High Track - Mingo defeated Collins 43-29. Collins won three events: 60 yd. hurdles, 440 yd. relay, and 880 yd. relay.
(Note: Collins School did not have a track. They utilized/improvised the school grounds and the adjoining street for conditioning, training and practice.)
April 25, 1968 Baseball - Story County's two schools that play spring baseball, Collins and NESCO have been assigned to separate sectional tournaments. Collins will go to the North High diamond in Des Moines where they have drawn Des Moines East as their first-round opponent. The game is scheduled for April 30 at 4:00 p.m. Should they win they will meet the winner of a game between Des Moines Lincoln and Des Moines North on Monday, May 6.
