Basketball - The Collins Clipperettes and Clippers have started the basketball season with glorious victories. The schools Collins has played so far are: Boone-Ryan, Baxter, and Ballard. The girls and boys can say "No losses."
On Nov. 15 the boys played Boone-Ryan at Collins. The boys had a 9-point halftime lead and went on to win 76-65. Tom Morrison was top scorer of this game. The reserves also won their game 47-29, with Kevan Stratton the top scorer.
The Clipperettes overwhelmed Baxter 73-21. Vicki Mullihan topped the scoring with 29 points.
The boys roared off to a 14-2 1st quarter lead, and also overwhelming victory 51-25. Mike Mullihan topped the scoring.
On Nov. 25 the Collins girls defeated Ballard 71-54 with Sandy Rumbaugh 41 points as top scorer. The Collins girls "B" team also defeated Ballard 29-19. Donna Rumbaugh and Linda Carroll were top scorers with 9 points each.
On Nov. 26 the Clippers and Mr. Barnett attended the boys' all-day conference clinic held at Ames. In the evening, the Collins boys outscored Gilbert in half-game play.
December 15, 1966 Grade News - 7th: We are studying equations and conditions for equality and inequality in mathematics. We have finished a complete unit and had our final test. Social Studies is very interesting because we are studying Argentina, a country much like the United States. In English we have been doing much work on the use of possessive nouns.
Humor: The trouble with most speakers is they shout too loudly for the little they have to say.
December 29, 1966 Music - The Des Moines Council of Allied Arts held their monthly student matinee at Critchetts in Des Moines. Matt and Mark Carver played a piano duo.
The Annual Snow Ball dance was held Saturday night in the school lunchroom that was gaily decorated. The theme was "Fiesta De Navidad." John Hale and Debbie Long were crowned the king and queen. Royalty: Cathy Jo, Cathy, Larraine, Denny, Jack, Jim.
January 6, 1967 Basketball - Collins Clipperettes had little difficulty in winning over Story City 64-46 on the home floor. Lineup: Mullihan - 35; Rumbaugh - 23; Snyder - 5; L. Carroll - 1. Guard fouls: Clemons - 2; Long 0; Hunt - 1; Graves - 4; Holland - 3; Kimberley - 0.
Collins boys were victims of Story City's 5th straight win - 55-47. Scoring - 1st quarter Story City led 16-13; halftime 25-24 with Collins taking a 3rd quarter lead 40-35. Story City finished with a strong 4th quarter 18-7 over Collins, Collins losing 55-47. Collins had won 5 straight games going into this game. Lineup: R.
