SCHOOL YEAR 1965 - 66
August 26, 1965 - Collins Community School will begin at the usual 8:30 a.m. time, Monday August 30. The daylight savings time will change to regular time on Labor Day. Buses will pick up students on the same time schedule as used last year. All pupils are requested to pay fees, such as book rent - $5.00, workbooks are extra, and lunch tickets - $5.20 per month on Friday, August 27. There will be no school on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6. All school employees will be in Nevada for chest X-rays on Friday, August 27.

September 2, 1965 - Elementary and Junior High Enrollment: Kindergarten - 22; 1st - 17; 2nd - 24; 3rd - 15; 4th - 21; 5th - 26; 6th -22; 7th - 31; 8th - 20. Total - 204. High School Enrollment: 9th - 25; 10th - 27; 11 - 19; 12 - 18. Total - 89. Grand total school enrollment - 293.
September 9, 1965 - State Tests: Sept. 1 and 2 found grades 9 - 12 in the study hall room for State ITED tests. There were nine tests ranging from math to general vocabulary. Each test lasted 55 to 60 minutes with a recess of ? hour.
The music department is starting its annual activities this year. The schedule: High School Band - Mon., Wed., Fri.; Mixed Chorus - Tues. and Thurs.; Junior Band will be once a week. Small groups, consisting of dance band, sextet, and chromatics will be held after school. Due to difficulties there will not be boys and girls glee club.
Senior News - The seniors (18) are taking a variety of classes with American Government being the only class with all 18 members. Main topics among the seniors are the annual and senior class trip.
Optic Paper Staff this year consists of the senior English class, which Mrs. Mellor teaches. Greg Robinson, Assist. Editor last year is Editor for the 65-66 school year. Each student was put in charge of a main topic to cover throughout the year.
September 16, 1965 French Class - There is a touch of Paris within the walls of CHS this fall with Mrs. Fugate teaching French classes for the 6th and 7th grades and the high school juniors and seniors.
The Collins fall baseball season opens Sept. 3rd with freshmen talent and many of the Clipper regulars returning. The loss of Gary Pointer, pitcher, will hamper the Collins effort.
Girls Basketball - Coach Bill Brooks is looking forward to the coming season. We are going to field a team of veterans despite losing four seniors from last year's team. Varsity positions are wide open with practice beginning. I expect around 23 girls out for the team.
