The excitement of the Girls State Basketball Tournament is here once again in the Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa. Central Iowa was well represented by West Marshall (State Center) and South Hamilton (Jewell) two teams that are among the "Sweet Sixteen" that represent the different areas of the state. South Hamilton won and West Marshall lost on their quarter-final games. The State Championship game will be held Saturday night. The next big event is the Boys State Basketball Tournament also in the Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Music News On February 29, 1964 we presented our first Collins Hi-Lites. It was truly a tremendous success. All sorts of talents were discovered, including extremely well-coordinated dancers, talented vocalists, swinging instrumentalist, and a few wild impersonators. In behalf of everyone who participated in or enjoyed the show I want to give Mr. Groethe credit for making it possible. Without his direction and guidance, the show could never have been presented. Everyone who worked and performed in the show enjoyed every minute of it. We are looking forward to next year. We all particularly remember the fun we had in presenting the Collins Hi-Lites of 64.
The Band Members have been practicing diligently on various selections for coming events. Two of these selections will be played when we go to the band contest in April. A spring concert is being planned for April 19.
A Dance Band is being formed with members selected by Mr. Groethe. This new group will assist The Crickets in furnishing the music for the coming dance of April 10. Your favorite swingers "The Crickets" enjoyed playing in the Hi-Lites very much. They are hoping for more opportunities to perform. The Crickets are rehearsing some "real cool" numbers for the April 10 dance. Don't miss it.
The members of the Mixed Chorus immensely enjoyed singing in the Hi-Lites. Now we have to settle down and practice for our next appearance, probably at the spring concert. The Girls Chorus and Boys Chorus are also practicing various selections for the coming concert. Several music students will be playing solos at the Solo and Ensemble Contest in mid-April.
