May 7, 1962 The senior class play, "Grandma's Best Years,"a comedy, was presented Friday night in the school auditorium/gym. The lead part of "Grandma" was played by Nancy Kloppenborg. Supporting roles: Nancy Kimberley, Janet Maxwell, Judy Stevens, Susie Kilgore, Nancy Fitzgerald, Galen Smith, Cliff Dalby, George Ballard, Don Struthers, Connie Bowers, Cheryle Partridge, Kay Novinger, Judy Chittenden, Mort Dodd, Dennis Downing. Music between scenes were two numbers by the girls trio. The senior class sang two songs, "Moments to Remember," and "A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet," accompanied by Linda Atwood. Mrs. Jackson, the director, was presented with a gift of sofa pillows by the class president, Ben Carver. Corsages were presented to her by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Graves. After the play, the senior class was invited to a party at the home of Mort Dodd.
May 8, 1962 Sectional Baseball Tournament at Collins: First round - Collins and Roland game was called and postponed to a later date because of rain and lightening. The 1st round tournament games could be played on Wednesday, depending upon the weather conditions. (Insert 2006: Collins defeated Roland in the rescheduled game. May 10, 1962 The senior class went to Woodward State Hospital. They were accompanied by Dick Cory, Mrs. Milo Dodd, Mrs. Roy Dalby, Mrs. C. W. Huntrods, and Mrs. Norman Partridge.
May 13, 1962 Semifinals - Collins 6-game winning streak was stopped by North Polk 2-1. North Polk took the lead in the 4th inning with a lone run. Collins tied the score in the top of the 6th when Galen Smith walked, stole 2nd and 3rd, and then stole home for Collins' lone run of the game. Ben Carver and Mort Dodd had Collins' only 2 hits. North Polk's winning run came in the bottom of the 7th inning with the opposing pitcher, also a fine batter, hitting a home run. Collins pitcher, Gary Pointer had allowed only 2 prior hits. May 15, 1962 Baseball - The Clippers worked their way out of a 7th inning jam with Mingo for a 4-1 victory. Collins scored 1 run in the 1st, 2 in the 5th, and 1 in the 7th. Collins collected 6 hits and received 3 walks in scoring their 4 runs. Strikeouts - 7. Jerry Crabb pitched: Innings - 6, hits - 3, runs - 0, strikeouts - 9, walks - 6. May 16, 1962 Baseball - The spring season ended with Collins downing Maxwell 4-1. George Ballard collected Collins' only hit in the 1st inning and drove in Galen Smith who had walked and stole 2nd.
