February 5, 1961 The Story County Basketball Tournament had receipts of $2,442 and total expenses of $1,070 with resulting profit of $1,372. Each participating school received a dividend of $65 plus mileage for team travel. Collins received $124. Other expenses were trophies, officials, and rent to the schools, and programs.
February 8, 1961 The Collins Clipperettes came back for an overtime victory over Baxter 43-39. Collins girls trailed 20-11 at halftime and 31-23 at the 3rd quarter mark. The Clipperettes had strong 4th quarter comeback, making a game-tying basket in the last few seconds for a 37-37 tie game. Collins held Baxter to only two points in overtime and came out on top 43-39. Lineup: Susie Kilgore - 38 pts. Collins boys fell before Baxter 38-29. Three regular players were absent due to injuries and illness. The Clippers pulled to within one point in the last four minutes of play, only to have Baxter make a strong rally for the 38-29 victory. February 9, 196l The Honor Society met in the Home Ec room at 7:30 p.m. on January 25. Officers elected: Pres. - Charlene Luing; Vice Pres. - Nancy Kimberley; Sec. - Linda Atwood; Treas. - Dick Rice. Charlene Laughlin is a new eligible member. Nancy Kimberley and Linda Atwood led the group in a scramble authors' game. Then each person told a story using four pictures from a magazine. Lunch of pop and cookies was served.
February 10, 1961 Girls Sectional Basketball Tourney - The majority of the county teams will be competing in the Collins tournament. Collins vs. Colo, Milford Twp, and Nevada are scheduled on the opening night.
February 11, 1961 Basketball - The Collins Clipperettes won their final scheduled game of the season 65-54 over Rhodes. Collins held a 17-12 1st quarter lead, 36-29 halftime, 46-42 3rd quarter, and a strong 4th quarter for the 65-54 victory. Lineup: Susie Kilgore - 53 pts. February 14, 1961 Girls Sectional Basketball Tourney: First round - The Collins Clipperettes battled back from a 13-7 2nd quarter deficit to defeat Colo 62-43. Collins took 17-15 halftime lead and held the lead throughout the 2nd half for the victory. Susie Kilgore led the scoring with 46 points. Collins' free throws - 16 made, 21 missed.
